Guest guest
Hi Sue and welcome! If Jimmy is getting red or pink spots that don't fade within an hour then an adjustment is needed. If the spots don't fade in an hour then don't put the helmet back on - wait until you can get in for an adjustment. I hope that band works well for Jimmy. Please keep us posted on his progress. Best wishes, Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Yeah for Jimmy!!! I hope you see great results so that you can avoid the surgery altogether. I think your the first person I've read that has dealt with microcephaly, can you share a bit more about this and what is involved? It would be great to hear so that all issues pertaining to helmeting are covered. I wish you success and please keep us posted on Jimmy's progress! Thanks! Guest guest
What is the Starscanner? Is this a new device so they so not have to cast the head. Just wondering. My son just got his helmet a week ago and I have been addicted to this board. I hope your child is doing well Thanks, Ethicon, Inc616-207-1421 Car616-513-1574 Pager800-888-9234 X7422 Voice Jimmy got his STARband on Friday!!!! My 3 1/2 month old just got his STARband. Today is his first full day wearing it. He has a shunt, which they needed to accomodate, and microcephaly. I was told this is a first, and that it MAY not work for him....I guess kids with microcephaly sometimes have brains that don't grow fast enough to push the skull out to form to the inside shape of the helmet. He is a guinea pig right now....but it is worth it if it means he may be able to avoid cranial vault remodeling. Can anyone tell me if their kids ever had red spots from areas where the helmet rubbed (from the two long pieces that come down between the ears and the eyes)? I am concerned, and cannot call the orthotist until the morning. They did not go away within 20 minutes of removal of the helmet, and are still quite bright pink now that it is time to put it back on!Otherwise, I can tell you that the helmet appears to fit well, and the STARscanner was a breeze! 2.5 seconds for the scan, and it was over! It only took two tries (because my son hiccupped during the first scan!). For more plagio info
Guest guest
Yes, and it's WONDERFUL!!!! It means no casting!!!! In 2.5 seconds, you get an extremely precise scan of your child's head! I wouldn't know what it's like to have to comfort a child during a casting, but I'm sure it's no picnic. I'm quite glad the STARscanner was available! The best part is that each time you go back for adjustments, they give you printouts of the original head shape, with the changing head shape images over the top so you can actually see the improvements taking place! Anyone interested can go to the Orthoamerica website to see where the closest orthotist using a STARscanner is located. Jimmy's doing really well...thanks for asking. I hope the same for your son!
