Hi all~ Grace went in for her 9 month check today. How fast time

flies! Anyway she officially stopped wearing her helmet almost 4

weeks ago. We took her in for her last appt with the orthotist 2

weeks ago. Throughout the whole process we were concerned about the

lumps that had developed above her ears (the helmet had some space

above each ear) we addressed this practically each visit with the

orthotist, asking about spacers etc for that area, once we started

noticing these lumps developing. He told us everytime that they were

totally normal, he saw them happen all the time and that once the

helmet was off and the head continued to round on its' own that the

lumps would eventually just become part of the rounding. So now I am

so self conscience about these lumps. Today at her appt the ped of

course noticed them, so I told him the whole thing that the orthotist

said and the ped said that he can see what the orthotist is saying

but that it will be " interesting " to see if they actually disappear.

He wants us to come for a 12 month visit so that he can see the

progress of the lumps. (he called them boney protrusions) Has anybody

else had this problem or heard of this? (Ours was a locally made

helmet)

And now I can tell that my mom is all critical of her head which

makes me really feel bad. She had to keep pointing it out to people

in the doctors office (nurses etc) saying that the lumps are supposed

to go down. It makes me feel like people are looking at her like she

is a freak. I never was this self conscience when she was in the

helmet! Now it makes me wonder if we made a mistake (which i know we

didn't because her head had drifted on the top and back from her

torticollis and was so oddly shaped and now it is not) but I am just

having a " feeling bad " day.

Anyway on a good note the ped thinks the tort is resolved and so does

the PT.....but I still want to continue PT for awhile longer to make

sure we have covered all the bases since she is not walking on her

own yet etc. and Grace
