Guest guest
Kate, I'm from Toronto and we are in the process of getting a helmet after doing tonnes of research. The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto has helmets but you need to be referred by a doctor - any doctor, you pediatrician, physician etc. You doctor calls the HSC and then HSC contacts you directly to set up the appointment. It will take about 6wks. What I did before going to my ped was arm myself with studies (www.plagiocephaly.org), before and after shots, and the names of doctors I wanted to see. This will help you immensely. The doctors who are involved with the program are Dr. Forrest and Dr. . They are in the Cranialfacial Department. Go to www.sickkids.on.ca and you can print out their bios. I thought my pediatrician would be anti-helmet but she was very open minded after I gave her all that information. She said that it's all so new. Apparently the HSC only began offering the helmet last year. If you want more information, call the HSC and speak to the Cranialfacial Department. Apparently there is going to be a presentation and info session on July 23rd from 8:30 to 12:30pm. 30people are already signed up. Both Dr. F and Dr. P will be present. Again, you still need to have a referral just to attend. If I were you, I would see my ped or physician to get that referral whether Paige's head improves or not - just to be safe. It'll probably take you another month or two after July 23 to attend the next one. Unless my doctor can speed up this process, I will be there. Kate, please email me if you have any questions, mjl_2@.... My son is 7 1/2months old and has plagio on the right side. > What happens if the closest CT clinic is about a 72 hour drive away? Guest guest
Kate, Hi, I'm from Burlington... my son is presently in the helmet through HSC. We initally saw Dr. at the cranial facial dept. Then we were referred to Art Street, the orthotist who fitted for his helmet. His email is arthur.street@.... I believe Art has been doing the helemt for years at HSC but he has seen an increase in patients over the last year. has been in the helmet since April 17/02 and we have seen wonderful improvement. Art is really an experienced orthotist who is very knowledgable. I just posted some before and after pics with only 2 mo in the helemt... You can see them at post 35455. We still have a couple of months to go. If you have any further questions you can email me at dsmith001@.... posted some very good info. Good Luck Dana (mom2) > > What happens if the closest CT clinic is about a 72 hour drive > away?
