Guest guest
Donelle, My daughter will be on risperdal starting on Sat -- I decided to wait until she was at home so I can monitor the first week or so. I was really uneasy starting Emmy on a new med & tehn sending her to school. If you want we could compare notes in a couple of weeks to compare. We are starting with 1mg in the am & then in a few wks adjust the dosage if neccessary. New drug Abilify vs Respidal?? > Have any of you heard of Abilify? It was just FDA approved in late Nov. or Dec., is in the same group as Respidol, but less side effects, like the weight gain issue. > Our Ped. just put our son on Respidol today, would not do the abilify since it is new :-( > > Anyone familiar with Abilify? > You can address this directly to me off the list at > Donelle@... > Thanks. > (It is holiday time, and a new drug.......Oh PLEASE be a good change, please) > Donelle > > > >
Guest guest
, Thank you so much. I have put this off for a long time myself. I just worry. He is 11, and only weighs in at 66lbs. I don't suppose an increase in weight could hurt him, but I just worry about an increase in too short of time. I wonder can the heart take that, and then diabeties, tics, mood swings, TD, etc. The plate is already full if you will, adding more scares me. The Abilify is to do the same as the Resipadal, but less side effects. Yes, Please, let's stay in touch. Appreciate it, Donelle New drug Abilify vs Respidal?? > > > > Have any of you heard of Abilify? Guest guest
We have also been debating this for about 6mos. My daughter is 4.5yrs old & her moods has gotten increasing worse over times. I thought the SSI's would be the way to go but the Dr. found a good article in the New England Journal of Medicine Vol 347 pd 314-321. I attempted to print the article out but it was too new & I had to pay access to the article. We decided that it was time for med because she has started to hit herself, bite herself & scratch her legs. From what I understand -- the heart isn't as major as it sounds. We are going to do an EKG soon and we are also going to do an MRI & EEG to see if the self injurious behaviors are happening for another reason. I am also on another list of your -- autismohio. Lets hope things go well -- New drug Abilify vs Respidal?? > > > > > > > Have any of you heard of Abilify? Guest guest
Donelle, Evan has been on Risperdal for some time and has just had it increased by another .5 mg in the a.m. and another .5 mg at school. He has always had a huge appetite before the Risperdal so I am not sure that the Risperdal really made a different with him. His brother started Depakote which is another med that causes weight gain. After he had been on it awhile he leveled out and lost the big gain to where he is back to where he should be. On the bipolar list, one of the doctors there mentioned a supplement for those that gained weight on Depakote. I was thinking about asking her if it might help with Risperdal. Evan works all his food off but he eats continually. I would like to see him eat just 3 meals a day with snacks instead of eating 4-6 meals a day. Holiday Greetings Betty Effexor, Omega 3's grandma and guardian to - 11 yo-- Bipolar/ADHD on Depakote, Adderall, Omega 3's Evan - 8 yo nonverbal autism on 4 mg Risperdal - 6 - Bipolar/ADHD/RAD/PTSD on Tegretol, Adderall, Clonidine .1 mg, Omega 3's mother to , their mom - Bipolar/ADHD on Topamax wife to Bob too many meds to remember
Guest guest
Betty, Do you remember the name of the supplement that might be taken with Risperdal to help avoid weight gain?
