Guest guest
Amie: The first week or even 2 wks, it is common for new bands to do some shifting. This is usually with the DOCband becuz it fits loose to allow room for the baby's head to grow into, this prevents the child from rapidly outgrowing the band & needing a 2nd one too soon. It is quite common to be going back in for adjustments regularly for the first couple wks, it's hard to get that perfect fit. Hang in there, it gets easier every day. So I would say it is ok, but if you are really uncomforatble with the amt of shifting, then take it back & discuss this with your orthotist. So the orthotist didn't like the tantrum Dakota was throwing??? Send him my way, Abby can show him a tantrum or 2!! LOL Great news about his tort improving so much! It was m ost likely who gave you the stretching & excercise tips. She's our resident tort expert! Keep up your great work. Let us know how the band is doing, hopefully Dylan will grow into it a bit more. Guest guest
Amie, A month is a very long time to wait for the band. I suspect that Dakota has grown too much since the casting. How old is Dakota? It sounds like what happened to my son. I think his head got wider from the time he was casted. Then the only way the helmet would fit on his head was if it was twisted. As the star band twisted more the orthotist would keep cutting more off the ear. To make a long story short, his head got considerably worse after seven weeks of wearing it. The band works by holding on to the bossed forehead and the non-flat back side of the head and allows room to grow on the flat side and the non-bossed forehead. Keep bugging your orthotist until he gets it right, or find a new orthotist. My son has a Doc band now. It fit perfect from day one and the three hour drive is well worth it. ...'s Dad --- In Plagiocephaly@y..., " AMIESGOSSIPBOX " <amiesgossipbox@y...> wrote: > Well, after waiting a month to get Dakota's STAR band, and after > having it only since Wed we have to take it back. Guest guest
, Thanks for sharing your words of wisdom- its important for parents to know that sometimes you really have to keep a good eye on that ortho- and understand the process so that you can spot warning signs if things are not going as planned- thanks for the the heads up and so glad to hear that your son is in a new band and is doing great!!
