Kerri:

I was lucky enough my daughter graduated from her band in June of

last year, before it got so hot like it is now.

Is your home air conditioned?

Sweat won't ruin the band at all. To forewarn you, the sweating is

pretty bad no matter what the weather is for the 1st week or 2 until

the baby's body temp. adjusts to having their new " hat " on top of

their pretty lil head. After that it definitely decreases.

It is important to keep the band on the baby's head the recommended

23 hrs a day. I would ask CT about the extreme hot & humid

conditions & what they recommend.

Hi Kerri-

We live in Sacramento, CA were it is also very hot for much of year.

Today is high 90's and 100's for the rest of the week.

The first two weeks we had the helmet he sweated alot, but that has

gotten better. I dress our son Ian in just a onesizes or a diaper if

were at home. He really likes to go into the pool so occassinal will

go out and do that. The heat doesn't seem to bother him, and he is

big into water bottles so I give him water a couple of times a day

and that seems to help. We do usually stay inside during the hot

afternoons with the air on so he is more comfortable.

The worse part about the heat is the smell of the helmet. We do

clean it daily with 90% rubbing alcohol and a little baby shampoo,

but the real key is to put it out in the sun to dry it leaves it

smelling really fresh. We usually take it off once in the morning to

get dressed and for about an hour at night to clean it. Ian doesn't

even fuss anymore when we put it on or take it off, he is truly used

to it.

Good Luck

Kerri,

Personally, if we were going to be outside in the extreme heat where

there was no relief, I would leave the band home. That being said, I

think I should let you know that we hardly ever went out, only

because I would go so darned overheated trying to get all four kids

out the door by myself!! Or if we did go out, it was only for an hour

or two. We spent a lot of time in air conditioning while they were

in their bands. You really don't want to keep leaving the band off

because you might be missing some really good growth.

I just want to remind everyone, that during the heat please keep your

baby hydrated. Whether they are in a band or not, children are more

suseptible to the affects of heat than we are. I know we are all

wonderful parents who already know this, but it doesn't hurt to have

a reminder!
