Guest guest
Since it looks like will be getting her band soon, I'm curious how strict I should be with her....it's been 90-95 degrees in Chicago lately. I've read that you take it off when they have a fever, but how about when it is this hot? Will sweat ruin the band? Is it dangerous to keep it on in this heat? I know they say 23 hours a day...is that an absolute must or can it be off very occasionally? Thanks, Kerri
Guest guest
Kerri, Occassionally if you are going to be out in the heat I think it is very appropriate to remove the band. It is best not to make a habit of that, but it is better then having your poor baby sweat profusely in the extreme heat. I don't think the sweat will hurt the band terribly, but it's not a bad idea to remove the band and wipe away the sweat periodically. Good question! Guest guest
Kerri you really should keep it on 23hours a day unless their is a medical reason as to why you shouldn't. The band is designed to be most effective that way and you want to capture as much growth as you can. Unfortunately we had our band in the heat as well and spent most of our time indoors-no daily trips to the pool or playing in the sprinkler. Not ouch fun but well worth every minute of it! beck
Guest guest
I agree with Marci- if it was totally unbearable to myself- I removed the band for a short car drive or anything where I knew 10 minutes off would do more good than harm- sometimes an overheated baby is more dangerous than a flat head! It's really a judgement call- we all want optimum time spent in the band, and rightly so, so that it can do its job, but for brief increments where you feel its too much heat, I think mother knows best. Guest guest
Your son will graduate from his first band in May as DOCbands are only good for a maximum of 16 weeks. With 6 weeks down you have 10 left and that takes you to mid-May, and that is assuming he doesn't grow out of it before then. We had a STARband and were told that we would be in it 4-6 months; we ended up graduating after 4.5 months because my son outgrew the band. Molly Novato, California Nicolas, 3, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 6 , 9 time in band Hi, I am new to the group. My son is 9 months old and has been in a doc band for 6 weeks for plagio. I have seen definite improvement in this time and was really surprised when the therapist said that he would probably graduate from this band in June and get a second band until probably September. I was really hoping to be finished completely by June. Of course I want he head corrected as much as possible and will keep him in it however long is needed....anyway my question to everyone is that the normal amount of time in a band and was anyone ever told by cranial tech that it would be longer than it actually turned out to be? He started on Jan. 23rd at 7 1/2 months old. Thanks so much.
