Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group!! We're glad to have you with us........did I just type your message?? Holy cow, talk about almost identical stories we have. Abby's STARband was horribly assymetrical from day one, so her orthotist kept trimming away the ear area, which left a HUGE open area around her one ear. We waited one month after her casting to actually receive her band. We also then switched her into a DOCband after almost 3 wasted mos in her STARband,.....we also had a 3-4 hr one way drive, but her head SO improved. I'd drive days to help her! Welcome again...how long has been in his DOCband, how old is he, how much improvement has he rec'd thus far...etc...all the good stuff please! Guest guest
was casted for his Star band right before he turned three months old. It took 9 days to get his helmet back which doesn't sound bad, but he was growing so fast at that age. I always complained to the orthotist about it being crooked, but he insisted it was fine. After 4 weeks, I didn't see any improvement, but the orthotist said there was (he took pictures at slightly different angles) and the neurosurgeon also thought he saw improvement. I felt helpless. After seven weeks of wearing the helmet the orthotist finally took another measurement and found that it had gotten worse. The diagonal measurement to the flat spot was almost an inch worse. Anyways, got his Doc band at 5 months and has had it for a month. His head is about to the point where it was before we started. Luckily, he's young enough that he should still get good correction, and our insurance has paid 100% for both bands. I've read your story on the Doc band page. I always thought our stories sounded similar. We're from Illinois and go to the CT clinic in Chicago also. Takes 3 hours there, 4 hours home with the traffic. Certainly, your story helped us feel better about our decision to go to Chicago as well. > > > Well, after waiting a month to get Dakota's STAR band, and after > > > having it only since Wed we have to take it back. Guest guest
: So sorry to hear of your struggles . The important thing now though is that is getting good treatment that has already improved his head (at least got you back to where you started I suppose). Please keep us posted on his progress....wishing you the best of luck!!! Happy travels in the mean time - how much construction is going on in Chicago these days??? That was the worst part, as spring approached for us last year, it got ridiculous! Guest guest
Hi , Wow - your story really does sound like Debbies! I'm glad that got started so young so that correction will be fast and easy - I would imagine that will have a real good shot at 100% correction. I'm glad you have joined us and hope we will hear more from you in the weeks and months to come. I noticed the " husker " in your email address - are you a Nebraska Cornhusker by chance? If so then GO BIG RED!!!! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma (uprooted from Nebraska and planted here!!!)
