Guest guest
Hi Anastasia, I've been taking my daughter to an osteopath for about 2 months. She sees him every 2-3 weeks for a manipulation. We originally started seeing him because Abby had a very weak suck (nursing would take at least an hour) and because she had a HUGE bump left from the vacuum. The first issue has resolved, and the second is greatly improved. Whether it is because of the osteopath or because of time, I don't know, but the osteopath is taking the credit How much can an osteopath help with plagio? I swear that half of Abby's flat spot popped out a couple days after our last visit to the D.O., but it could just be time, and all the repositioning and tummy time we're doing with Abby that is helping so much. Or maybe it really is the D.O. All I know is that everything is working. The osteopath was explaining that in the massage/manipulation he is actually moving the bones & breaking the seals (I don't know what seals he was talking about, but, at the time, I thought he was talking about the sutures). He applies very minimal pressure and it is typically a very relaxing procedure for the child. There is no pain involved, and Abby usually falls asleep right in his hands. I've loved everything about going to see the D.O. except when he made the claim that he totally healed the torticollis after a few minute massage. That was a bit unrealistic. He has since said that he's glad Abby's getting PT for the tort. He also is completely opposed to helmet therapy as he claims it is a contradiction to his profession. He's entitled to his opinion Hope this helps. Good luck ~ Christy (mom to Abby ~ just about 4 months)
Guest guest
Hello Anastasia: I take my daughter to a Cranial Osteopath and a Cranial-Sacral Therapist. I think it is possible that a licensed and skilled professional COULD round out a child's head - but I think our kids might be " more difficult cases " . I have been bringing my daughter, Rhiannon, to her Cranial Osteopath for 4 months now - we go 2x/week and she receives cranial manipulations. Her head shape did change, but her case was/is so severe that the osteopathy treatments alone would not be able to do it for her. My osteopath is a pragmatist, and believes in doing whatever one can that brings results, so he is working with me on the helmet issue and my daughter is wearing a DOC band. Her correction has been great! I really think that if I had not brought her to the osteopath, her head would not have moved so well, as it would have been " stuck " in it's old pattern (the myofascial tissue would have been too stubborn to move). Also, she does have tort, and we have been working on that as well. From my experience, I think that the Osteopath, Cranial-Sacral Therapist (she works on my daughter for 1 and 1/2 hours each session), the OT, and the helmet, along with alot of mommy and daddy therapy, have all worked together to help Rhiannon have such a great outcome! She was a " strong candidate " for surgery to release her SCM muscle in the beginning, and we did not have to go that route in my opinion due to the Cranial Osteopath and the Cranial-Sacral therapy. Good luck, and I really do hope that this guy you found CAN indeed round out a head in " two sessions " !. Please post your experience and outcome, as it may be worth it for another family to fly in and get treated for a week or so to help their little one! Take Care and good luck! , Rhiannon's mom > > I have an appointment with a man who is a " pioneer " in osteopathic medicine. He claims he's rounded out a child's head in two sessions!!! Has anyone ever dealt with or taken their child with plagio or tort to an osteopath? If so, let me know how it went. > > Anastasia (Artemios' mom) > > Long Island, NY > > > > --------------------------------- >

Guest guest
I started taking to a craniosacral therapist at 7 months who really helped with his torticollis. When was 10 months, I then started seeing an osteopath in northern Virginia I heard about that specializes in cranial manipulation. He is past president of the Cranial Academy; and my son's craniosacral therapist when she heard who I was taking to said he was one of the best and she had heard of him when she was doing her training in England. I have taken there for 7 months now on a vist every three to four weeks basis. started sleeping through the night every night soundly and taking great naps a few days after he got a big release on him 3 months into treatment. was an absolutely horrible napper and sleeper before then. It was like a switch went off. I also noticed facial asymmetry changes after two of his appts. so I am a strong believer in their help. I did do DOCband therapy in conjunction with this therapy which he has graduated from with good results. I still take to the osteopath because he feels he still needs some more work. His comment on his still slightly asymmetrical headshape was that his head shape would correct over time as he grows; no promises of immediately.
