Guest guest
Anne Marie, Thanks for your reply!! I am waiting for EI to call me back to set up an appt. I am in Lafayette Hill, west of Philly. What book are you referring to? The " KKR's Tort book " ?? Thanks - Logan 5 months PA > , > > Yes, I would recommend EI. If he qualifies, they will provide free PT for Logan. EI told me that most tort babies will qualify, some states automatically cover babies that have torticollis. was considered to have a 25% developmental delay in his gross motor skills (he rolled over at 4 mos. but only to one side and from only his back to his belly - then he would get stuck and start to cry - he also hated it on his tummy!!) He was evaluated by EI at 5 1/2 mos. of age. > > If you do qualify, just make sure the PT that they assign you knows what he/she is doing. Our first PT (thru EI) was supposed to be " very good " and experienced with tort. I'm sure she did help some, but she told us NOT to do any stretches/strengthening at home! She would see him every other week (unless something came up and she had to reschedule - which happened quite often) at his daycare. His daycaregiver (who me and loved to death - now goes to another daycare, but if I could have taken Mrs. Manning along -- I most certainly would have!!) would tell me that his PT hardly did anything to . She would do a little stretching and some massage and then most of the time she would " monitor " him. She told my husband and I that had mild tort and that we could actually do more harm than good by " over-stretching " him. She said that the therapy that she gave him (every other week) was all that he needed. She did have us do passive exercises and re-positioning at home. But that just wasn't enough. Twice I called a meeting with her and her supervisor (EI social worker) and questioned the fact that everything I read was telling me that the at-home therapy with the parents is of utmost importance. Again, she said not to do it -- what she was doing was enough. Being a layperson - we listened her. I'm ashamed to say, we were relieved that we DIDN'T have to do anything at home. I feel a lot of guilt about that to this day. > Anyway, I've went on long enough, and most of the people in this group have heard this all before. My next step was to set up an appt. with Karmel-Ross (Tort guru) in Cleveland for an evaluation/consultation. After our visit with her, I contacted EI and we got rid of his PT. The second PT we got was inexperienced with tort (but willing to learn). He knew what needed done, but he was just a little too rough with . We also had him dismissed through EI - he completely understood the reasons behind it. > I strongly recommended EI, just be on top of things when it comes to the therapist they assign you. I wish I would have been in the very beginning of 's PT. By the time we got the second one -- I knew not to mess around and this PT actually welcomed any advice/tips that I would give him about tort. (I even bought him KKR's Tort book for him to learn more!) > Good-luck to you and Logan, let us know how you make out with EI. > > AnnMarie and (17 mos.) > STARgrad > Tort (1 yr. in PT tomorrow, July 10th) > PS -- After you sign your name I see you put " PA " . Do you live in Pennsylvanian? If so, where are you? I live about 1 hr. west of Pittsburgh.
