Guest guest
Thanks for your concern, Ladies This is such a good group to share experiences with! I'm doing much better today as I've talked myself into believing again that it is all plagio/tort related and not a birth defect. We'll go back to CT in August to remeasure. Plus, I've sent a certified letter & pictures to the specialist asking him to address Abby's wierd ear in the report his team was preparing for us. Abby has all the typical asymmetries that everyone talks about here: ear misalignment, fuller cheek, smaller eye, bulging forehead (not anymore), and a once bald/now fuzz covered flat spot behind her right ear. It's the wierd & tilted ear, flattened jaw, and pull on the eye that throw things off a bit. The specialist had said that it wasn't so much that one side of Abby's face was smaller, but that plagio was making the other side " bigger " . This all made sense, but then...Charlotte at CT said it was the tort pulling the ear, jaw and eye to make the other side " smaller " . Maybe they're both right and that's why she looks so crooked? I hope. Charlotte seemed extremely confident that I'd see big improvements with the stretching, PT and repositioning. " And then if I still wasn't satisfied we could talk about banding " . So we have options and things we can do. I guess I just needed a couple of days to process things and get my focus. I happen to have a gift for convincing myself of the worst-case scenario instead of a better-case one. Thanks for listening. I'll have to take some pics and get your input. Have a great 4th!!! I hope. Christy, In my experience with both tort and plagio- these are very true statements. That's what was so confusing to us- trying to figure out what was causing what- but it really does make sense when you think about it. I am firmly convinced that because tort was a factor, it was a combination of agressive pt, massage, and the DOC band that fixed the asymmetry problems you described, with my son. At 4 months, you have a good month to really try repositioning, stretching, etc. Evaluate your progress with pictures and if your not seeing any major results, I would opt for the band- this may allow you to concentrate more heavily on the tort while the helmet works its magic (and prevention of progression) on the plagio. Good luck and keep us posted! ' Mom
