Guest guest
Amie: I have a quick question before I get to answer the rest of your questions, is Dakota in a STARband or in a DOCband (made by Cranial Tech)? In your earlier posts, you stated he was wearing a STARband, but in this post you state it's a DOCband. The STARband would most likely have a star design printed on the band somewhere. I know how confusing it is, I thought my daughter had a DOCband at first when it was actually a STARband. I am assuming though that it is a STARband, so that's how I'll answer your questions. If it is not a DOCband, there is a Cranial Tech. clinic in Kansas City, I don't have the # in front of me, but it's from Rehab Desings of America. You can check out their website for the # www.cranialtech.com They could get you in for an evaluation of Dakota, I'm not sure if this clinic would charge for the consultation or not, you could ask them on the phone. I don't much like the response your orthotist gave you saying you are too paranoid!! Gimme a break! If the band is not fitting properly, then definitely keep it off Dakota's head....an improper fitting band can do more harm than good to an infant's head. Keep it off until it fits properly. You can email the picture to plagiocephaly I'll try to get to your other questions in a minute....busy day at work! Hang in there...sorry for your troubles already!!!! One more thing I wanted to ask, does Dakota's orthotist have good experience in treated plagio babies with the STARband? I really didn't like how he told you you were being a paranoid mom by thinking the band shifts too much. There's NO such thing as an overly paranoid parent, that's our jobs! He should address each & every concern you have professionally & give you appropriate answers. You also said Dakota had to wait a month after he was cast to receive the band, which really is too long to wait. My Abby also had to wait an entire month after she was cast to receive her STARband. You might have already heard my story before, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself to you, but my Abby began her STARband treatment at age 8 mos., she wore her STARband for nearly 3 mos., I had a feeling all along the band didn't fit her properly. It also looked assymetrical, didn't sit on her head right, and never produced any correction. Abby's band ended up causing more harm than good, it dented in her skull on what was the good side of her head, a result of incorrect pressures being applied . So what I'm saying, is to make sure your orthotist is experienced! This is the key (Abby's ortho was not). Do you have any pics of Dakota in his band you could share with us? I hope things get better for you, I'm sure you're very frustrated. Debbie Abby' smom DOCGrad MI
