Guest guest
Howdy all... Well after meeting with our cranio-facial plastic surgeon today, we've decided to go ahead with helmets. The doctor didn't have his calipers in his suburban location (apparently 95% of plagio parents like to meet him in his city office..weird). But since he was relaxed and in suburban mode he actually spent some time feeling the babies heads. Zack has a corn kernel headshape still, though it's starting to round out..and Zoey has a pretty round head..but it could still use some rounding. He thought that Zack definitely needed it and in our heart of hearts we thought the same. Since Zoey will be in the car for the casting/adjustments we figure she might as well get one too. I talked to our insurance (Tufts HMO) and the lady on the phone 1) knew what plagio was?! and 2) said 80% coverage for helmets was standard. If it actually work this painlessly I'll be amazed given the nightmare stories I've heard from everyone here. We don't have the appointment yet, but we're going to go with the NOPCO (local) helmet and have it cast in their Burlington, MA location. I went through the message archives looking for horror stories and couldn't find any, so I'm pretty confident I'm doing the right thing. If everything goes as planned they'll have the helmets at 5 months, so I'm hoping for a growth spurt right after! Now, I just need to find some stickers! (my helpful colleagues at work have suggested bringing the helmet to a Harley shop and having a cool custom design added -> I haven't totally rejected the idea LOL) Ken Zack and Zoey's dad
Guest guest
Ken, Well, it sounds like everything is worked out and you are ready to move forward. I think you will be happy with your decision. You have made such good progress with the repositioning. That coupled with Zach and Zoey's young age and you should get great correction in a minimum amount of time. Guest guest
Ken, At 5 months old I'm sure you'll see great correction. I hope other members dealing with the same helmet can share their experiences with you as well. Good luck and keep us posted! I do remember a Harley helmet, and it was very cool! Guest guest
Somehow my wife doesn't think flames and eagles are an appropriate decoration for Zack's helmet. 8-) I don't know when the casting is yet..so I guess I have some time before I have to finalize a design decision. My wife, Anja, is pretty artistic so I'm sure they will be nice.
Guest guest
The flames and eagles sound cool to me. Mack will probably have flames, dragsters or trucks on his, since Dad drag races the brackets on Sundays. in NH > Somehow my wife doesn't think flames and eagles are an appropriate > decoration for Zack's helmet. 8-) I don't know when the casting is > yet..so I guess I have some time before I have to finalize a design > decision.
