Guest guest
Grier, I'm so glad to hear how well Chandler did - that is awesome! I don't know what to say about the glue smell except that if it is as strong as you say I would leave the helmet off to air out as well. As for it being loose, that is just how ours was and his explanation about the passive helmet sounds exactly right. It should be loose enought to allow room for the head to grow into the helmet. As Chandler's head grows into the helmet it will mold to the more ideal shape of the helmet. As long as it doesn't impair his vision or slip off too easily then it sounds just right. I'm glad that Chandler is on his way - sounds like he is going to do GREAT! We're glad you have joined us! Marci (Mom to ) oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi Grier, It sounds like Chandler has such a happy disposition! That must have been really cute to watch him giggle when ever the helmet slid down. And he really is a cute little guy! I think you absolutely did the right thing by leaving the helmet off while the fumes were still so strong. Hopefully the fumes will dissipate enough so that Chandler can be in his helmet today. And I would think that as long as the helmet isn't interfering with his vision, or if Chandler can't take the helmet off, then the fit is okay. Let us know when Chandler is in his helmet, and how he does in it! Niki Kaylie & Danny (STAR grads) grier.holloway@... wrote: Good morning, everyone! First let me thank everyone for making me feel sowelcome here! It really has taken a lot of the stress off of me knowingthat I have others to "talk" to that really understand what we are goingthrough.Chandler got his helmet yesterday and did great at the fitting. While theywere fitting the foam, it kept slipping down over his eyes and he wouldjust giggle and giggle. I guess he thought it was a new form ofpeek-a-boo. Once the helmet was ready, he didn't seem to mind or reallyeven notice the helmet at all.My husband () and I do have a few concerns though:1) Because the ortho had to add another small piece of foam right before weleft with the helmet, the glue fumes are almost overwhelming. We decidedlast night that those fumes may not be good for a 5.5 month old, so wechose to let him have one last night helmet-free while it aired out. Didanyone else with a locally made helmet experience this? If so, how longdid it take for the glue smell to go away and is it something we shouldeven be concerned with? We are planning on starting the 23 hour helmetwearing after we get home today.2) The helmet seems fairly loose- -not loose enough to fall off andChandler can't get it off. The ortho explained that the extra room is dueto the helmet being passive and allowing the head to fill in where it iscurrently flat and also for basic growing room. Locally made helmet users,is this about what you experience, too? Thanks for indulging my questions and I'm posting pictures from yesterdaybelow. I'm still new at this whole posting thing so I hope the attachmentscome through.GrierMom to Chandler (5.5 months- Helmet starting today)For more plagio info
Guest guest
Grier, So nice to hear that Chandler was giggling during his fitting- what a good baby!!! I think you and Dad are great for keeping the glue fumes from him all night- we all want correction but sometimes our common sense tells us what is more important- good for you all! I hope other members can share any glue experience they've had. I have heard that in passive helmets the extra room is quite normal so the child can grow into it- and the fact that its not too loose sounds about right as well. Good luck- take pictures on your own to document progress, and please keep us posted on how Chandler's doing- if his fitting is any indication, I'll bet he'll do just fine!
