Guest guest
Ears Perk Up.. Hmmmm. So what you are saying then Mel, is that maybe American footballers at all levels should perhaps take more training out of Rugby's book, than where they are going now? I am the first to admit my tackling sucks, being a big slow sucker (O + D line). But I have also seen way to many people " bounce off " a tackle due to the protective gear that we wear. I play on a Perth (Australia) Bronco's Team, and we are the woodenspooners of the league. We play with around 13 people on our team (Last game was 11 !!!) so injuries are too common in our team. ( I Play 4 main positions, D'end, O'Tackle, Middle Linebacker and Center - Obviously not all at the same time). Anyone have any good tackling drills, and/or training drills for off season training for American football (or rugby if it helps!!)? Cull Perth, Western Australia Proud Perth Bronco jason@... ----------------------- Your comments comparing the tackling approach of American footballers and rugby players was most relevant. It would certainly appear as if the dependence on protective clothing and helmet has caused tackling technique to suffer in American football. Long range flying dive tackles on a ball carrying offensive team player who is faster than a defensive player are very rare and often allow touchdowns to be scored, whereas a wing trying this in rugby would often be heavily taken down from a distance. I really enjoy American football and several of the Broncos periodically visit my facility, but it frustrates me no end when I see tackling deficiencies letting other teams score.
