Guest guest
I talked to the person at Mayo Clinic who is in charge of making the helmets. They have their own brand, and she told me that it looks just like a bike helmet with a cloth chin strap. Is this not good news? Please help me, I am getting really worried that we are getting into the wrong thing here!!! Heidi
Guest guest
Heidi, Take a deep breath, and relax ;o) I know this can all be very overwhelming when you first start out. I promise you, it will all turn out! There are a variety of locally made helmets, some with chin straps and some without. Either way, they both work the same and are very effective. I am sure we have had someone here use a helmet that is similar to the one you are describing, hopefully they will chime in here and share their experiences with you. Guest guest
Heidi: follow Niki's reply & relax a bit! I know how confusing all of this is, especially with the majority of people now using the STARband or a DOCband. We have had other member's use local helmets with chin straps. I hope they will reply to you. If you don't like the chin strap - ask if the strap HAS to be there, or if you could get the helmet w/o one. I hope other members with a similar helmet will reply to you! As long as the orthotist who you'll be dealing with is experienced in treateing plagio babies with the helmet, you should be ok! I've never heard of a Mayo Clinic helmet before. Could they mail you or even email you any literature on it? This would give you a good idea of the helmet your child will receive! Guest guest
Hi Heidi. Not to worry about the chin strap. My son was in a locally made helmet from Children's Hospital in Seattle, and it sounds like what you described. The chin strap is no big deal. It stays on with velcro. With my son's helmet, we could take the strap off when he ate so it didn't get all icky with food. they also gave me an extra strap, so we could wash one while he's wearing the other one. All of the different locally made helmets are different in their own ways, but they all serve basically the same purpose: to round our your baby's head. Hope this makes you feel better. If you look in the files section and then front page stars, you can see a picture of my son in his helmet. It's DHelmet, I think, and his name is . Kellie, mom of , almost 18 months! Guest guest
Heidi, I just posted to your Mayo Clinic post, but I think it addresses the issues in this post as well. It sounds like you would be getting a locally made passive helmet. Dont' worry - that isn't necessarily a bad thing. We used a locally made helmet that was really nothing like the DOC or STARband and we were very happy with the results and with our ortho. I will refer back to my previous post - interview the ortho - ask questions specifically about his/her experience and then go with your gut instinct. Good luck and hang in there!! Guest guest
Hi Heidi, My son has a locally made helmet with a cloth chin strap. 's helemt looks more like a football helmet to me. It has 4 air holes on the top, a chin strap and a clasp at the back. My orto said that he designed the helmet with the strap because he wanted to ensure the helmet fitted tightly to the top of the head. He wanted to make sure that the head did not grow up (like a cone). I like the strap actually because I know that he won't be able to take it off. We have seen good results. I will try to take some pictures of the helmet and post them for you. It may take a couple of days though. I hope this helps. I was freaked out when I first saw the helmet because I was so used to seeing pics of the doc band. All locally made helmets look different but you can still see excellent results depending on how experienced your orto is. Guest guest
> > Got my blood tests results back & my inflammation marker or ESR is high. It has never been high ever. I find it very strange since i've been strick on this diet the past 9 weeks. +++Hi Shirin. It is perfectly natural for your inflammation marker to increase because your body is detoxifying on this program, and it will be higher in the beginning when so many candida toxins are being released due to die-off. > > My digestion seems to be in turmoil with my on & off diarrhea & bloating, which I attributed to die-off & now the doc is saying Giardia. But I confirmed with the doc that the stool test did not show Giardia but he is saying that Giardia could be possible that's why he's recommending flagyl. +++Your doctor is going to perscribe an antifungal " drug " (flagyl) since you could possibly have giardia - that's nuts!! > > Now they want to do a colonoscopy again & I'm just not keen. I've done a scope 2 times already & both times there were ulcers & suspected crohns but not confirmed. > > Please tell me what I should do to keep get the inflammation down. My stomach feels like its burning & my hiatus hernia area is giving me much pain again the past few days. I suspect most of the inflammation is in my gut. Tho my neck & shoulders are hurting & my entire left arm is stiff. > > I'm so confused. I thot I should be getting better on this diet & not worse. +++You can expect to have more inflammation while you are detoxifying/healing, and also if you've had any similar symptoms in the past your body will " retrace " them as well in order to heal properly. +++You do get worse before you get better because of how your body heals itself - read this article to understand: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/heal2.php Since you are having some difficulties with your digestion I recommend you do the 9-Day Program: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/dig6.php Some people need to continue on a liquid and/or pureed foods diet for longer than 9 days, but after 9 days only do the clear water enemas every 5 days. Let me know how you do on the 9-day program. The best in health, Bee
