I do have a reference for this information. It was a radiological comparison study of a series of spines. The study is actually quite heavily referenced in literature that advocates (erroneously I think) that a rounded lumbar spine is best for spinal health. This is because of a wild interpretation made by the investigators to explain the findings, suggesting that the time the tribesmen spent in squatting positions protected them via the rounding of the low back. I might suggest an alternative explanation - they had no chairs. Anyway, the reference is not in this office, but at home. It is from 1965 and I believe the lead researcher was Fahrini (sp?). Actually I'm pretty sure the spelling is wrong. I'll get back to you on that tomorrow. Greg Hart Calgary, Alberta
