Dana,

GOOD point! One specialist we saw, Dr. Witt, said he was 'on the fence' and I knew by many of the words he said that he was getting caught up in comparing one baby's head to another all day long (he has specific days of the month for seeing all plagio babies). We had two other opinions calling Grant's head moderate to severe and I knew Grant's head hadn't improved in months by the time we saw Dr. Witt, so we had our pediatrician write a script for the DOCband.

LOL.I just wanted to point out to you that you can STILL get the helmet even if the craniofacial specialists recommend against it.We saw Dr. and his team at HSC. They advised AGAINST the helmet for us and said his plagio was mild/moderate. We thought about what they said for a day or so and then decided to proceed with the helemt anyway. They said the decision was ours but I kind of got the feeling that they expected us to take their word that his head would round out on its own. Well I KNEW his condition had not improved for several months and was uncomfortable with their diagnosis.Anyway, Dr. wrote a prescription for us for the helmet NO PROBLEM....thank god....and we were casted the following week. The orthotist couldn't believe that Dr. advised against it! Now, don't get me wrong, I think the specialists are very well qualified...it's just I think they see alot of babies in the run of the day and they often compare one head with another. You know what I mean?? We have not regreted getting the helemt and in fact, I'm kind of nervous to see our time come to an end....Anyway, whatever you decide, just do what feels right for you and your family. If you are not satisfied with what they say, then push for whatever you feel is the right path for your son. Dana (mom to )Burlington, Ont. Dana I think your right on about this- they will make you feel as if you should feel lucky compared to some of the kids they see all day, and then kind of make you feel guilty about making a big deal out of something they think is so minor in comparison to what they see everyday.
