" Ideas: in smoothies, spread on whole grain toast with honey (really

good), and stirred into hot cereal. I can stir an entire T. in a bowl

of hot cereal with some cream and maple syrup or rapadura sugar.

Also, you can use the coconut oil whenever you do cook. "

I just bought Spectrum brand oil to try it out and it is solid while

stored in the cuboard. Do you spead it like butter? Seems like it

would be too stiff. Or do you heat it to liquid first? What about in

the smoothies. How do you do that?

Unrefined Coconut Oil is solid at 72 degrees and liquid at 76 degrees. I

keep some in a bottle on my stove or in a warm spot so it is liquid whenever

I want to use it. The remainder does not need to be refrigerated.

Wilderness Family Naturals Coconut Oil has a 3 year shelf life. (Some of

the refined CO does not liquefy.) Refined CO is referred to as RBD, refined

, bleached, and deodorized. RBD is considered a cosmetic grade.)

I have compared different CO and have had examples of the different brands.

I think the consensus was the WFN was preferred for taste, processing type,

and nutritional value. Within that brand there are 3 types, centrifuged,

fermented, and expeller. Fermented seems to be preferred for nutritional

value. Taste does not vary much.

Yes it is great in smoothies, for cooking, eating plain, baking, skin care,

fighting viruses, fungal problems, and is an anti bacterial . The medium

chain fatty acids are necessary for health and replace the bad imbalance of

omega 9 and trans fats. CO is considered a cleansing product where palm oil

is used for building. Palm oil is known for it's anti-oxidants.

I haven't used Spectrum, and don't know about the quality. I use

Wilderness Family Naturals coconut oil which you can get from

('seaside student' in this group). Anyway, as soon as the oil hits the

hot toast, it melts and spreads out for you.

I hate to tell you this, but the consensus was that Spectrum had an icky

smell when cooked and didn't taste nearly as good as Tropical

Traditions or WFN! Where do you live? Maybe we could get a

bit of WFN to you to try out.
