Guest guest
Hi Christi, I too have a tiny kid! will be 1 on the 27th. She weighs 17lbs 10oz and is 27 1/4 inches. I've mentioned it to her doc more then once. My other kids weren't that small at that age. All kids are different even if they're siblings I guess. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as she is eating and eating healthy foods. Please let me know what the diet. and nutri. say. Maybe there is something I need to know. Thanks, > Hi I was just curious if anyone has every had a doctor tell them > there child was too small and send them to a nutritionist? Guest guest
I think your right but to be safe see what the exsperts have to say and dont worry. I used to baby sit 2 kids who never ate and they were underweight and their Dr wasent concerned. Try to give the child high calorie food. As long as the child is growing at the same rate every few months then I wouldent worry to much. Guest guest
Hi Christi: I think that it is reasonable to think that if your child is eating well, has baby fat, and that you and/or your husband are relatively small that this is just her size and there's nothing to worry about. I think the doc overreacted, and maybe could have said something like " while it is very likely that this is just her size, given that her parents are not large people, it might be a good idea to rule out any underlying issues, just to be on the safe side. " I think this wording would have been more appropriate and accurate for the situation, and you wouldn't be left feeling like there is something that you are doing incorrectly. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out. Kind regards, , Rhiannon's mom > Hi I was just curious if anyone has every had a doctor tell them > there child was too small and send them to a nutritionist? Guest guest
Lorraine That is what the doctor says is a concern. Because she only gained 1 lb in 5 months and shes always been on the 5th percentile on height and weight but now shes way below the 5th percentile and they said its not good to drop so far down like that. They also suggested the high calorie food. THey told me lots of dairy and to give her peanut butter. But shes already eating that. SHe drinks about 5 cups ofmilk a day loves cheese. And loves peanut butter sandwhiches. soooo well see what they have to say, Christi > > Hi I was just curious if anyone has every had a doctor tell them > > there child was too small and send them to a nutritionist? Guest guest
I couldnt agree with you more. I think the doctor could have worded it better. Because I have been feeling like there is something I should be doing to fatten her up or something. But shes already eating very well so Im kinda lost on what else to do. I am supposed to go to the nutritionist this week so I will let you know what they say. Guest guest
Christi, My second son was a very small baby, and in comparison to the moose of a first child I had, he seemed even tinier. For about three months, he did have to take pediatric vitamins because he had very low iron (which was my fault, I was nursing and I had very low iron, talk about feeling guilty!) but other than that my ped wasn't too worried about him. My oldest is going to take after my hubby, who is over 6 feet tall. And my second, even though he is a good size now will take after me, I'm 5'5 " . I really think that your doctor may be placing some unnesessary stress on you over this. But the one good thing is, at least you know that your doctor is up on things. If you know that Mya is eating enough, and eating well, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Let us know what the dietician and nutritionist have to say!
