Guest guest
Hospitals must provide care for everyone, whether they have insurance or not. 99.99% of the time they see no payment from the uninsured. Here in Michigan the economic conditions are bordering on catastrophic. So many people are employeed by the auto industry or have jobs that are related to or depend on them somehow. With the car companies taking such a large hit in the last few years we have a very high unemployment rate. People who had good jobs in the past have resorted to taking lower paying jobs with no benefits, if they can find a job at all. In other words, we currently have a lot of people with no insurance through no fault of their own. The hospital I've worked at for 27 years went belly-up this year. With the State and Blue Cross' permission, a physician group is buying the hospital and it will be the first for-profit hospital in Michigan. Personally, I don't believe that for-profit hospitals is a direction in which we should be going. Physician profit will be the driving force now, I hope good patient and medical care doesn't fall by the wayside. We desperately need health care coverage for all with good preventative care, it will pay off in the long run. Just my opinion. a http://www.mlive.com/businessreview/oakland/index.ssf/2008/08/sale_of_pontiacs_n\ omc_finalize.html
