Guest guest
, I can imagine how frustrated you are that your ped won't just write you the prescription. My neurosurgeon was Dr. Neff at St. 's Hospital for Children. I didn't care for him too much in the personality department, but that wasn't important. What WAS important is the fact that he wrote us the prescription for both bands even though he thought neither one of the twins needed to wear one. He told me he wrote the prescription because he hates to go against parents wishes. That right there was all I needed to hear to make me think he is the greatest neuro ever! He has saturday appointments every other week, and we got to see him within a week and a half. If you would like, I can look up his phone number for you, just let me know. The only thing is, he writes prescriptions for STARbands, but if you have your heart set on the DOCband, then I would assume (I hope) that they would give you a prescription for it. Good luck with the EI appointment, I hope Logan qualifies so that you don't have to worry about insurance with this too! Let us know how it goes! Guest guest
: It is quite common for pediatricians to refer plagio babies to a ped.neuro to evaluate the child. After that, the ped. neuro will give you his/her opinion & advice. The ultimate decision whether or not to band Logan, should be yours. I hope he'll give you a prescription for the band w/o any trouble. But again, it is very common for peds. to refer the child to a specialist first. Do you already have an appt with the specialist? I understand how anxious you are to get the process started. But still at 6 mos., Logan will still be hitting many growth spurts and will still get good improvement with a DOCband if needed! I think it's great you'll be taking him to a chiro.! I bet your husband will agree too after the visit (I think dentists are quacks! LOL, j/k, but I have a HUGE fear of dentists! HUGE, I break out into sweats before each cleaning, that's just cleanings!!!! LOL). I hope you'll qualify for EI.....please let us know how everything goes. Good luck. Guest guest
Niki, Thanks so much for the support. That is great about the neuro. We are going to one at Temple Childrens. If she doesn't do the script, maybe I'll have to look up Dr Neff. - > > Well, my ped finally got off vacation. I was hoping she would just > > give me the prescription but NO. Guest guest
I know exactly how you feel about wanting the process to speed up. The docs kept telling me to reposition her but wouldnt seem to understand her neck wouldnt turn that way. Finally at her 4 month check up the doctor (military so I see different docs every time) said I think she may have tort. WHich is the first we had ever heard of it. so she put in a referell to a specialist at Womack then it took a month to see her so when we finally got there Mya was 5 months old and she said she has plagio and tort but well do a CT scan to make sure its not Cranio. SO we had to set an appt for that well by the time we got that done Mya was almost 7 months old. So then we had to wait for result. WE called and called and called and couldnt get a hold of the doctor to translate results. SO I finally called the advice nurse and said can you tell me what the computer says and maybe I can figure it out. So the advice nurse read it and she had no clue but it all made sense to me. It ruled out cranio and confirmed plagio. So then my husband had to hunt down the doctor to get the referrel for the evaluation by a craniofacial plastic surgeon. This doctor we saw is an excellent doctor and was completly for the DOC band but her contract with the military was up for renewal so she was so busy and then she refused to come in till the renewed it because they werent paying her so that was a big ordeal in itself. So we finally went for the evaluation and then Mya was casted a week later and finally got in her DOC band when she was 9 months old which I feel wasted a lot of correction time. But we did all we could and tried to speed them up to the best of our ability. Mya also has misaligned ears. We were told at the beginning Mya would probably require two bands. And we just went for a re eval Thursday and sure enough she needs a second one. Please be patient I know that it is hard to do that. Beleive me I know. I mean push them to move faster but try to stay calm so you dont stress yourself all out. I dont know much about pediatric chiro but I beleive chiropractors do work, I was in a car accident back in november and couldnt move my neck I went to a chiropractor for 8 weeks and after all the treatment I felt sooo much better. Let us know how everything goes and good luck. Sorry for my LONG post Sometimes I start to ramble! Christi mom to MYA (DOC band 3/6/02) > Well, my ped finally got off vacation. Guest guest
Christi How did you stay sane!!???? I can't believe you had to wait 5 months for treatment. I see you totally understand how I feel. I am SO trying not to stress but it's hard! At night I can't fall asleep because my mind is racing, thinking about the ped, the script, the date, Logan's head & ears, finding a PT etc etc. And it's not doing me any good. It is so good to hear that Mya got results even though she started at 9 months. Very encouraging! Guest guest
I know exactly what you mean about your mind racing and thinking about everything at night when you are supposed to be sleeping! I was EXACTLY the same way. It was soooo awful. I dont know how you are about praying. But for me thats what I did every single night when my mind would start doing all of that racing and worrying and stressing out about everything. I would say over and over the Lords prayer and the Hail over and over until Id fall asleep. IT kept me from thinking about everything and I was able to sleep. Yes Mya has gotten a lot of correction. I was really worried about her starting late. But as you probably have already seen a lot of babies start later and still get great results. I am very hopeful that Mya will get a lot more correction once she gets her second band. Feel free to email me Christiz75@... if you just need to vent about your worries and concerns. Cause I know its hard! THis group has been wonderful for me. Everyone has been so nice and even when I was a basket case and soo anxious about the casting and then waiting for her band. I wish I had found this site earlier when I was going through all of the waiting and worrying, good luck Christi > > > Well, my ped finally got off vacation. Guest guest
, I can totally relate. My son is almost 10 months old and still not in a band due to the " run around " routine. His neurosurgeon appointment was cancelled by the doctor and should hopefully, finally, happen on Tuesday (I had to wait over three weeks for the original one) My ped only sent me to a neuro to humor me. Be have been trying to do something about his flat head since he was 4 months old. I still don't have a new ped and am pretty sure the nuero is going to laugh at me when I bring up band therapy. Let us know how the appt with the neuro goes and good luck to you! Kristi > Well, my ped finally got off vacation. I was hoping she would just > give me the prescription but NO.
