Guest guest
Oh my goodness , I am so sorry to hear that! But what a relief that it wasn't menangitis!!! 's grandfather had shingles a few years ago. While he had it, it did slow him down a bit because he couldn't get around as well, but then again he was 73. I imagine I'll have trouble getting around when I'm 73 too, even without shingles! But he really has seemed to have made a full recovery, he has never mentioned anything about lingering pain or tiredness. I have found some home remedies online to help with the pain associated with shingles. I hope you're feeling better real soon! Niki At-Home Remedies Keep the affected area clean, dry, and exposed to air (without clothes covering it) as much as possible. Don't scratch or burst the blisters. If the pain keeps you from sleeping, snugly bind the area with an elastic sports bandage. For the first three or four days, try ice for 10 minutes on, 5 minutes off, every few hours. Later, apply cool, wet compresses soaked in aluminum acetate, available over the counter in the form of astringent solution, powder packets or effervescent tablets. To desensitize nerve endings, crush two aspirin, mix them with 2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol, and apply the paste to the blisters three times a day. To cut down on itching, ask your pharmacist to mix 78% calamine lotion with 20% rubbing alcohol, 1% phenol, and 1% menthol. You can apply this mixture continuously until your blisters scab over. Other remedies for itching include frequent applications of vitamin E oil or gel from the aloe vera plant. g colloidal oatmeal powder where clothes rub against your skin can reduce pain. > Hi all, > Would you believe I just got home from the ER at 2 am and they think I have > Shingles??!!! Guest guest
, I had shingles back in 1997...luckily, it wasn't a very bad case as it was caught quickly by my doctor while being seen for something else. Did they give you any medicine? I was put on very high dosages of a medication called acyclovir and it definitely helped. Check out this link to see what Health has to say about shingles (if you haven't already seen it) - http://health./health/dc/000858/0.html (Mackenzie's mom) Phoenix, AZ > Hi all, > Would you believe I just got home from the ER at 2 am and they think I have > Shingles??!!! Guest guest
Oh my goodness. I m so sorry to hear about the shingles. I dont know anything about them since Ive never even had chicken pox myself. Both my older kids have had chicken pox but not me. And none of us shingles. My neighbor though did have shingles about a year and half ago and he had a rash I remember seeing it. But he didnt seem to be too inactive at the time. And now he is same as ever and has never mentioned the shingles since. Good luck with this and I will keep you in my prayers. Guest guest
Oh , you poor thing! I've never had shingles but my mother did. I remember she took medication called Zovirax (brand name). I think the actual med is acyclovir, which is what mentioned. I also took this when I got the chickenpox about 8 years ago. They are both from the same virus. Wishing you a speedy recovery... ann/ NJ > Message: 5 > Date: Sat, 13 Jul 2002 11:17:51 EDT > From: rella1234@... > Subject: OT Shingles- Help! > > Hi all, > Would you believe I just got home from the ER at 2 am and they think I have > Shingles??!!!
