Thanks! Yea..i'm kind of wondering why he didn't order any kind of scans or anything..but he felt and looked at his head...saw that it was on his right side more and when we told him that he did favor that side a lot...he said it is plagio and tort. He gave us some exercises to do ..b/c it was real mild tort...

He doesn't have any symptoms....even though i know there might not be any..and he has no misalignment or anything like that (except the dr said his right ear was very slightly forward..but not noticeable at all).

He is 6 months (today) so i guess we will try the helmet...i'm pretty sure it is plagio..but i was just wondering if there was a way to tell besides doing the scan and if most dr's order scans.

Thanks !!

I don't mean to scare you, but I've read stories on the CAPPS page,

that babies have been diagnosed with plagio when infact it was cranio.

I'll copy paste for you what is says on the CAPPS page:

What Are The Symptoms of Craniosynostosis?

Most children with Craniosynostosis do not have any symptoms; the

head shape is abnormal, and the face may be malformed in certain

cases.

Rarely, symptoms of increased pressure in the head such as headaches,

decreased appetite, vomiting, or even developmental delays or mental

retardation may occur.

So you see the symptoms are just like plagio. The reason had a

CT scan done was b/c her haed was growing faster than her body. The

first thing they wanted to do was rule out cranio. X-rays don't

always show if a suture is closed, that is why it is best to get a 3D

CT scan done. I don't know why a doctor wouldn't order a CT scan for

a baby with a misshappen head. After my research and the way 's

head looks,if my doc didn't order a CT scan, I would asked her to and

would not have taken no for an answer!! Cranio can be very serious,

if left untreated.

Also ,

I was just reading about craniosyntosis...and it says it is when the skull fuses together prematurely and there is no soft spot...but you can definitely feel the soft spot...and also at the last dr appt the craniologist said that the sutures (or something like that) was still open which was good....but you can definitely feel the soft spot on the top of his head. I don't know if that is the only thing with it...but maybe that's why he didn't order a scan???

Thanks!!

I dunno, so many Drs say they can tell if it's cranio just by looking

at the child, but I don't think that's good enough. I've heard of

too many mis-diagnosis's and would personally insist my child get CT

scans done or Xrays to rule cranio out, just to be safe. I'm hardly

trying to scare you, but cranio is something you want to be sure your

child does not have.

I went to the Neurosurgeon and he did not take xrays or order a scan

either so I asked him how he knew it was plagio and not cranio. He

said that because I was certain that my baby's head was born round

(and only became flattened after birth) and 2) because of it's

parallelogram shape. Cranio babies have a slightly different

shape. He only examined Kales head for about 2 mins but I guess he

has seen hundreds of skulls, enough to identify them immediately.

I think through years of experience and a trained eye, some obvious

cases can be ruled out as not cranio. We took the twins to a

pediatric neurosurgeon, and he never ordered any X-rays or 3D CT

scans. He besically was able to just look at them and know it was

plagio, and I felt totally comfortabel with his assessment. BUT, I

also knew that if I wasn't seeing the improvemnet within a certain

amount of time, then I would have pushed for some further testing.

It all depends on your comfort level, if you would feel better having

concrete evidence then there is no harm in asking for it.

My neuro said that she could tell just by looking at Logan that he

didn't have cranio. One thing she pointed out was his assymetrical

ears. If his plates were fused (cranio) it wouldn't be possible for

his ears to move. So that's how she knew....

Hi

Sometimes plagio can be very obvious that it's only positional. My

daughter Willow also did not have tests to rule out cranio.

Let us know how it goes on the 29th
