Guest guest
Kair, The results you see often come gradually over the whole span of the time in the helmet. At five months old I would think the results would come along a little quicker because of more frequent growth spurts. If he just got the helmet on July 15th and it took awhile to get him up to 20 hours a day then I would not be surprised if you have not seen an significant change yet. By the way, why only 20 hours a day? I've always heard 23 hours a day - or are you still working up to that? My daughter did not start until she was 9 months old and she wore her helmet for almost 6 months. Others in this group have only had to go 3-4 months, some even less. It does depend on the baby and the severity of the plagio. If after 4 weeks you cannot detect any changes then it may be time to either re-evaluate the product you are using or check back with your specialist if craniosynostosis has not been ruled out. Make sure you have before pictures - if you don't have any take some good ones now from all angles (side, top, back, etc). That's the best way to track improvement. Best wishes and let us know how things are going. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
hi Thanks for the info. I was told 23 hours a day but with the heat and humidity I wanted to give his head and helmet time to have fresh air. During the " off " times I have him upright so no part of his head is touching anything. I hope this will be better than having him on lying down. -kair > Kair, > > The results you see often come gradually over the whole span of the time in the helmet. Guest guest
Kair, I am not very familiar with the NOPCO helmet- although I do recall some past members using it. For the DOC band the average time is 4.5 months- but our son was in it for 3 months and was considered mild to moderate plagio. I do know that some members have talked about their children wearing it for as long as 8 or 9 months, but I think severity, age, and the type of helmet are all contributing factors to determining the length of time in the band. Hope this helps! cindy ' Mom
Guest guest
Hi Kair, My daughter has moderate plagio and she got a DOC band @ 5 mo's. I, along with my husband and my parents noticed a difference in just one week. The orthotist said progress that soon is not unusual for a baby that age. That is an optimal age to start treatment. She was projected to wear the band for 3 to 4 mo's. We just saw the orthotist last week and he said she's probably half way through treatment. She's been in the band for nine weeks. I imagine each band/helmet's treatment time may vary. Good luck to you and little . , 's mom Southern California --- kair_tucker <kair_tucker@...> wrote: > Hello Everyone > > Well got his helmet on Monday July 15th. > was diagnosed > with moderate Plagio, with a rating of 10 cm.
