Guest guest
Well, today we walked into the clinic, and talked to ette the orthodist. She addressed EVERY concern I had, and even educated me a LOT more! As of today I am VERY confident in having her as an orthodist, and I am going to stick with the STAR band for now. My worries WERE right, and his helmet WAS shifting too much! While his head does look worse we are suspecting that it's because it is growning while keeping it's deformed shape.. If that make sense to you?.... His head is wanting to grow in height, and not around. This is making it dificult to change shape, but we are going to try a new approach. She thinks that the helmet is possibly been OVER corrected, and that maybe part of the reason why it's shifting too much? This week she is going to call the company, and ask a bunch of questions to see if the helmet can be saved. Right now with out knowing more then she saw, what I had to offer, and her experience we are looking at a completely new helmet. It's possible that we may not be able to save it! She kept the helmet, and is going to try to do some modifications. Tommorow she is going to mail it to me (UPS same day), and we are going to see if it will help any. That too will tell us more, but right now we are playing the waiting game. On thursday she is going to again recast his head, so they have a better idea of what has happened. This too could possible give them an idea on how to fix it. Who knows at this point, but I am just SURE they can fix it. When we go in for our visit I am going to take my walker, because I think that will give us more control. That is rather than have him try to squirm around on the tabe, and get fussy! Has anyone tried this? ette (the ortho) is excited to try it, and so am I! Anyways, it's late, and has been a long day! I hope this makes at least a little bit of sense, but who knows at this point! LOL Thanks EVERYONE for the great advice, because who knows what damage could have been done in that weeks time!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Once again you all are life savers!! Guest guest
Amie, I am so glad that you met with ette, and that you are so comfortable with her. That really will make a huge difference! You are another prime example that our parental instincts will show us the right way to go. I honestly can't remember hearing of anyone who used a walker while they're child was being casted, but I think it is a wonderful idea! You'll have to let us know how it works out for you! Good luck Amie, let us know how Dakota does with his band tomorrow! Guest guest
Aime, I'm so pleased to hear that you had a good appointment with the orthotist. You really did the right thing by following up with her and I'm thrilled to hear that she addressed each and every concern. If they can't save the band then it sounds like recasting and a new band might be just the thing. It will be interesting to hear how the walker thing works out - let us know how that goes! Guest guest
Amie: That is great ette has helped you & sounds to be very educated & experienced in treating plagio. I would personally request an entirely new band at this point. Even if the modifications do seem to be correct, after this much time from his original cast, a lot has probably changed with his head shape. That is my suggestion. That's a great idea to bring his walker to your appt! I had never thought of this before. Good luck tomorrow - please let us know how the band fits. Hope all goes well! Guest guest
Amie, I think the fact that ette stepped up to the plate and said there was a problem, gives her extra points in my book for not putting you off and acting as if YOU were the problem, which some parents have experienced. That's great that she is willing to do whatever it takes to get this right- just keep her on her toes and as you are now educated you can gauge the situation for yourself along the way and I know you'll be able to spot a problem if there is one! Good luck and keep us posted! ' Mom
