Guest guest
, Not every doc recommends x-rays or a CT scan. Most have a very good idea which it is my looking and feeling. My specialist always has a CT scan ordered to rule out cranio, but also to know more about the plagio. )Plus he is doing some major research on plagio.) X-rays are good and the CT scan is even better in definitively ruling out cranio. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hello , There are visual clues to distinguishing between positional plagiocephaly and craniosynostosis. (see: http://www.plagiocephaly.org/resources/diffdiag.htm). Having said, you should also know that the condition is occasional misdiagnosed (there have been occasional report of that on this list). My advice... trust your physician, but ask them to explain how they ruled out synostosis. X-rays are always an option if the plagio is not responding to treatment. Guest guest
, You are now officially a member of the plagio police - LOL. Do we have these in the links section because I think I have seen them before. Sorry I didn't mention it before - I must be getting old - no I just have a toddler and get very little sleep - lol. I think we had this discussion on the boards once before and I was very concerned because na did not have a CT scan. But this clears it up as it did before. There are some tell tale signs of plagio. If any of the signs is missing or some of the more cranio type signs are present then docs do the CT. mom to na DOC Grad SC www.thefilyaws.com hessstephanie <hessstephanie@...> wrote: ....this group is really addictive. I have so much to do and I spend hours on the computer...:-)Any way, a little concerned by the fact that never had a CT scan to check if he didn't have Craniosynostosis, I e-mail Steve Mottram to check what he thought. He is very sure that doesn't have Cranio (although he told me I could do a CT scan if I wanted to be 100% sure). To help me understand the differences bet. cranio and plagio he advised me to read the following article. I think they are very informative and thougth you might be interested to have a look:http://www.aafp.org/afp/20030501/1953.htmlarticle from the journal "Amercian Family Physician" on Diagnosis and Management of Positional Head Deformity. among others I thought figure 5 showing a drawing of a skull in a helmet very interesting.I also found in the same journalhttp://www.aafp.org/afp/20040615/2863.htmlArticle I found interesting because it has a table on the timing of closure of sutures and fontanelles. (some adults still don't have all sutures closed!!!..may be I could benefit from a band...:-))(, 14 months, plagio)For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hi , I feel very proud to be an official member of the plagio police! :-) I couldn't find the articles in the links section, so I have just added a craniosynostosis folder.
