If you do...then the insurance (as far as I know) will not cover it without a referral. They can deny you for not having that referral. I don't have an HMO...but i do know that could happen and i would hate to see you get denied. Is there a way you can switch pediatrician's...as soon as possible...explain the situation to them..and have them give you a referral? I know it could take a little while..but it may be worth it. I just can't believe the nerve of that nurse at your pediatrician's office..and i don't blame you for not going back. Maybe you can call tomorrow and try to speak to the pediatrician instead. Maybe she will give you the referral..but i would also tell her how that nurse talked to you. I hope that things work out...let us know what happens.... I cannot believe her complete and total $itchy attitude. She really has her nerve. I hope you can find a new ped right away that has support that staff that is just that.....supportive!!!! I'm glad that you were approved for the loan and can continue with insurance. That really is good news. I'm also glad that the specialist will see you even without the referral. Guest guest
Hi Sheila Wow that nurse was a right b*tch!!You are doing the right thing by researching and you are absolutley right time is of the essence. Sending lots of luck to you and keep us posted. I was very >happy to discover that Gillette Children's Clinic here in St. has >FDA approval for the " CranioCap " , which is a band rather than a helmet. >This is the only FDA-approved craniofacial orthosis besides the STAR >Band and DOC Band in the country. I read all about it, and the dr. >( Wood) who helped develop it, and decided this is who I want to >see. So today I called my insurance company and by some stroke of luck, >this dr. and clinic ARE providers for our insurance. Woo hoo! They also >told me the CranioCap would be covered 90%...Woo hoo again! They said I >just have to get a referral from our primary care physician. So I called >the physician's office, and the dr. isn't in today, so I spoke with the >nurse. I explained the situation, and told her I do not want to wait >another month like the dr. told me to, and I was STUNNED when she said > " There is no possible way we can refer you to Gillette's. " So I explained that >Gillette's is the only place that offers the CranioCap and she (this is >supposed to be a PROFESSIONAL nurse) said real snippy " Well that's just >too bad for you then. We will NOT make a referral. Besides, if the dr. >told you to wait til her 6 month check-up then she must not be >concerned. " And then I lost it. Yikes! I told her my daughter was NOT >going to suffer just because they wanted to keep the dollars in their >own system. I also told her that the pediatrician's lack of concern is >just making the problem worse, and I REFUSE to stand by and watch >nothing be done, therefore I will be finding a new pediatrician at a new >clinic. And the nurse told me " Go ahead, we don't have the time or >resources to deal with hypochondriacs (sp?) here anyway. " OMG!!!!! I am >still in shock that she would say such a thing!!! Guest guest
Hi Sheila: It's , Rhiannon's mom again. YOu know, you can call the Attorney General's office and issue a complaint. So what if you don't know the nurse's name- just give your Ped's office name and let the state take care of it. This is patient abuse, and should not be tolerated. The Ped can deal with the investigation, and you can be rest assured they will try to find out who the nurse or receptionist was that said those things to you so they can assure the state that the proper diciplinary actions have been taken. Mike Hatch's office is working on the insurance/medical issues. Good luck, and go get them! > Sheila, > > Holy cow!!!!!!!!!!
