Well, Amaya's dr. just called me back finally and I explained everything

to her just as I explained it to the nurse yesterday, and how I do not

want to wait any longer, I want a referral now to a craniofacial

specialist, etc. She said " Well, that isn't something a craniofacial

specialist would handle, it would be a neurosurgeon. And in order for me

to give a referral to our clinic's neurosurgery dept. we have to put

Amaya to sleep and do a CT scan. " WTH??? I told her that I don't think

it is necessary, because with the 25 x-rays they took they determined

she doesn't have craniosynostosis, but she DOES clearly have all the

signs of plagiocephaly, and she said " Plagiocephaly? What's that? " OMG.

Up until now, I have really liked this dr. but to me this seems really

incompetent. It's not like it's an extremely rare condition! I explained

to her what it is, that it often accompanies torticollis (which she

knows Amaya has since she referred us to PT), blah blah blah. I also

told her I made an appointment with Gillette's (which I will be

cancelling anyway thanks to and some others) and THEY told me

they didn't need x-rays, CT scans or any of that so why would the neuro

dr?, but she said without those things they can't make a proper

diagnosis, and the bottom line is she can't refer outside the clinic. So

she said she has to do some research and we should come in tomorrow and

get scheduled for a CT.

NO. NO. NO. And NO again. I am through with this clinic. DONE. I've had

it. As if yesterday wasn't enough. Sheesh!!

Oh...and I also told her about what that nasty nurse said to me and she

did apologize and said she'll look into it. Which makes me feel a whole

lot better (NOT!). I AM going to keep my appointment tomorrow tho, JUST

so I can bring in loads of info on plagiocephaly (to hopefully help her

FUTURE patients), and to find out what is going to be done about that

nurse.

OK...I am outta here for now. Will be back on tonight to respond to

those of you who replied to my earlier post(s).

I am so incredibly grateful I found you guys!

Sheila,

Again I sit here in shock! I can't stand how ignorant these doctors

Sheila,

Well, that's two dorky peds I had to read about tonight - jeez what a total

goober! I'm glad you are keeping the appointment if for no other reason then

to educate this person. How ignorant - I can't believe she asked you what

plagio was! Unbelievable!

Your child should not need a scan if the x-rays were thorough and decisive so

I'm glad you are not buying into that! I hope you can switch peds quickly and

get a new one with nicer office staff and a clue about plagio!! Keep us

posted!

OMG Sheila!!

WOWZA!!!!!!!!! What a moron - it's definitely a good idea to switch

peds ASAP! Good grief, I am actually speechless for once!

Sorry you're getting such crappy care. That's great you'll be going

back just to provide the morons with some plagio information. Good

night...with plagio SO common now a days, that kind of incompentancy

is utterly inexcusable. Geesh.

Please keep us updated, and best of luck with all this. You're one

great mom!

Shelia, I was going through the whole thing with my peds. She told

me that they were going to have to do all of these xrays, but when I

talked to the nero, he said the he could tell that Jeffry had plagio,

and that they were not necessary. I was relieved. Check into Mayo

Clinic. It is only 1 hour from you. Keep in touch. Heidi, Jeffry's

Sheila,

I'm really glad that you followed up with the doctor after being

treated so rudely by the nurse. Although, sounds like the doctor is

just as big an idiot! I don't blame you for leaving that practice,

it sounds so screwy.

Good for you taking info to those morons, you are doing future

parents a great service!!

Sheila,

I too am appalled. But, she's lucky to have met you because you

care enough to give her an education. Good for you! Man, I just

can't believe she didn't know what plagio was. You are doing the

right thing by going elsewhere.

I forgot to mention to everyone that I when I had checked out for chicken pox last week with a differnet Doc from my ped's group- she read over torticollis and just wanted a little history on him. I said he also developed plagiocephaly- her response was, "what's that?!" and when I told her it created a flat spot she acted like she knew about it- so maybe she was either covering or didn't know the correct name for it. I feel for Docs that don't know about it to some degree, because it is a relatively new problem, and they do have so much knowledge in life threatening cases, and other medical info- where they have not specialized in this- I hope that plagio and tort though can become more widely diagnosed as it has become so prevalent- and is so necessary to treat in the first 2 years of life. My biggest problem is when they ACT as if they have a clue and they don't- and they steer people in the wrong direction with uneducated answers. If a Doctor is upfront with me about not knowing, I feel more confident with that one than I do with one that pretends to have knowledge! Now Dr. Myers can say she knows the name for a flat head! :)

Sheila,

Wow- here the ped is telling you all this and then she has no clue about

plagio? At the very least, she did say she was going to research it a bit-

but depending upon who she talks to- she may be convinced that its just

cosmetic (SO WHAT IF THEY ONLY THINK THAT- ITS STILL IMPORTANT!), and end her

search there. I probably posted this after the follow-up I am so far behind

reading posts- so I'll keep reading to see what happens next!!!
