Wow...you know..i think i take for granted that i didn't have any trouble getting the dr's agree to the helmet. In fact, i didn't have to push for it at all. Right off the bat, my pediatrician noticed the flatness and at 4 months...asked if she could send to a specialist. (Which i was happy..i was going to ask her to). And she asked if i've heard of the helmets...and i said yes. So she was knowledgeable about it..and i didn't have to fight with her..and then when i went to the specialist (he is a craniologist or something like that) he also right off the bat said will most likely need the helmet...just give it a month only b/c he said at 4 months babies are just gaining neck and head control and even though it's not heavy..it still can delay the control...and when we went back after the month..he said yep...he needs the helmet...wrote a prescription for it...gave us a letter of medical necessity...and suggested we use the Doc bands...but said if insurance will not cover them...we should use whoever they cover..but he wants to see the helmet right away when gets it...and he'll keep sending the helmet back if it's not good until they get it right. And he will see when he gets the helmet..and then every month...

So i had no trouble with that at all..and i guess i didn't realize how lucky i am for that...until i hear some of you guys say how you have to fight to get the prescription. I may not be so lucky with the insurance (we'll see) but at least i was able to get the prescription. And the bad thing is...i didn't know too much about this and me being a first time mom..if my dr would've said..don't worry..it will round out itself..it always does..as some of the dr's say....i might've believed her. (Although up till the 4 month appt my dr had said most likely it would round out itself it just takes a while...and i was going to ask her to send me to a specialist anyway...but at his 4 month when she saw it didn't get any better...that's when she said she wanted to send me...and i will thank her next week when i take for his 6 month checkup.

Sorry..this got so long..but it just hit me now..how lucky i am!!

You are very lucky, that's great. I wish all doctors would be so

open to new treatments. How old is your pediatrician? I am guessing

it is the younger one's who are more open to it. Mine is in her mid

to late fourties, the neuro we went to is probably older.
