Guest guest
Kia I definetly think its more common then the stats say. I am constantly seeing plagio babies! And my mom is too. Shes 360 miles away from me and barely gets to see Mya yet she can spot plagio instantly. ITs so funny. But I think for as many plagio babies as i see the stats have to be wrong. I just think more awareness needs to be out because before Mya was diagnosed I had no idea and had never even heard of plagio or tort. And Mya is my 3rd child. We went 4 months of Myas life not having a clue anything was wrong just thinking outit will eventually round out. Parents need to be told in the hospital! Guest guest
Christi, I definitely think awareness is lacking too. I believed my ped (who said it would round out and treated it casually) until Cole was 6 months... Then I finally did some internet research on my own, and realized how serious his plagio was (and the term "plagiocephaly" had never been mentioned to me, even when I asked about his head at his well check). It would be nice if pediatricians would do a better job educating parents. And I certainly would have loved to hear about it at the hospital, especially since Cole's plagio was evident from birth (looking back at pictures... hindsight is always 20/20!). Unfortunately I guess this is all relatively new still. Hopefully awareness will improve and parents will be given better information. Kia (mom to Cole, STARBand 6/18/02) P.S. Guest guest
i definitely agree with you christi: parents do need to be informed in the hospital ; you know i just feel like i need to go to the hosp. and inform them myself. -mary
Guest guest
You know Kia, two of our friends have babies with plagio. That's alot. If the stats are 1 in 60, this means that everyone must know someone with plagio. > Hi all, > > I went to my 2 1/2 year old's swim lesson class last night. Guest guest
Hi Kia, I can't remember where I read it,but it said that plagio is occurring in 1 out of 40 births. I wish I could remember where I read it. If I happen to remember, I'll post it. Plagio is everywhere! It blows my mind how many babies I see with it now that I am aware of it! > Hi all, > > I went to my 2 1/2 year old's swim lesson class last night. Guest guest
Kia: I don't think it's just you, I do unfortunately feel that plagio is increasing day by day right now. It's very sad too, especially that plagio education is so uncommon in prenatal & hospital classes STILL, after all these years of the back to sleep campaign. Of course you are a head police member now, so of course you'll notice it more than before, but I do think the cases are most likely increasing . In Abby's home daycare, there are currently 2 infants, BOTH with moderate to severe plagio and brachy Thankfully the parents are aware of repositioning and what to do thanks to seeing Abby in her bands and the one baby's flatness has significantly improved over the past 2 mos., let's hope it continues! Guest guest
Is it > only me, or do you think it's more common than the stats are indicating? > Kia, Its definitely not just you, as you can tell by all the responses you have received. Plagio is definitely occurring in what seems as epidemic proportions largely due the Back to Sleep Campaign. I don't think we'll ever know the correct statistics since so many doctors brush plagio off as nothing to worry about. If the docs did take parents seriously, I wouldn't be surprised to hear a lower denomination. Personally speaking, I have 4 kids, 2 with plagio and 2 without. My brother in law has 2 kids, both with oddly shapen heads. Right there is 4 out of 6 kids in my hubby's family alone. I tease my hubby the flat heads must run in his family ;o) Niki Kaylie & Danny (STAR grads) Phila., PA > Hi all, > > I went to my 2 1/2 year old's swim lesson class last night.
