Charlotte,

I'm sorry I can't remember- but was your 15 month old the one in the DOC

band? If so, the fittings would be less frequent than with a younger child-

but I'm guessing since CT told you this-the experts(!), that you have a

younger child in the band and you will need weekly trims possibly. My son

wore the DOC band from 5-8 months, and the entire time we went weekly, with a

shaving each time due to growth spurts!!! If that is your case, check with

your CT office and see if they can arrange for you to go to the other CT

office for the fitting. Good luck- have a great trip showing off your

beautiful daughter if it all works out that you can go!!!

My daughter will be banded on Aug. 15 and the very next day we are

supposed to go out of state for two weeks on our annual trip to see

family and so that everyone can meet our 15 month old, newly adopted

daughter. Cranial Technologies says they strongly discourage our

leaving becasue she may need care after being banded. I'd love

feedback. Did your children need to be seen again soon after being

banded?

I also read that a Cranial Tech was opening in Durham, NC. Can

anyone confirm? That's near the family we will be visitng and I'm

curious to know if the CT lab there can help us if we have problems.

Many thanks,

Charlotte in Florida

Charlotte -

Dane had to have at least one adjustment (maybe two) the first

couple of days he was banded. It may take a couple of times to get

a perfect fit.

Congratulations on your daughter's adoption. We will be adopting,

but not for a few years.

Charlotte,

In my daughters case, yes she needed to be seen by CT shortly after

she got her band. She's only had it since July 3rd. I've been having

to make a trip to CT once a week since then. All I know about the

Durham clinic is what it says on the CT web page.

Cranial Technologies, Inc. (Opening in July 2002)

200 Meredith Drive, Suite 100

Highway 55, Durham, N.C. 27713-2287

Phone: 704-344-1290

Toll Free: 866-344-1290

Clinician: Klemm, MS OTR/L

I'd call the 866 number and ask them when they will be open. I don't

see why they wouldn't be able to treat your daughter while your in NC.

Good luck,

PS have a nice time on your trip!

Charlotte,

Frequent adjustments are often necessary at first. It is possible that the very

next day she will need an adjustment - my daughter did! The CT in North Carolina

should be able to help you with your adjustments though if they are needed. I'd

give them a call first and let them know what is going on. It would be a shame

to cancel your trip. Try the NC CT thing first.

Charlotte:

I'm not sure if the CT in NC is open yet or if it's still in the

works.

There are many babies who need to go back to the clinic immediately

after they receive their new bands for adjustments. It's quite

difficult to get a perfect fit right at the beginning. I was lucky

enough thought that my Abby's new DOCband fit perfectly from day one

and we didn't need to return for a week. It's hard to say how your

daughter's band would fit her, but I can understand why CT is

advising you as they are.

Is there any way she could receive her band a bit earlier?

Charlotte,

My twins needed an adjustment about 3 days after getting their

bands. Its very common withhin the first week or so to go back to

the ortho to ensure that the band is fitting properly. Hopefully the

Durham clinic has opened by now. If not, is it at allpossible to

postpone your trip by a few days, just until you've got any kinks

worked out? Good luck!

Charlotte.

My daughter Mya will be getting her second band on AUg 15th as well

and we are planning an overnight stay in Charlotte NC because for one

CT advises its the best decision but plus when Mya got her first band

we stayed overnight as well and it was needed! Im so glad I did

because we had to go back several times for adjustments because she

had several red spots that wouldnt go away and we needed to return a

week later and we did weekly appts and then they finally spaced them

to every 2 weeks. Mya was 9 months though when she first got her band

and they were shaving it every appt. I dont know how the visits will

go with the 2nd band because she will be 13 months old so probably

wont be growing as quickly. But I do think CT is right about them

needing to see her but I know the CT clinic in Durham will be open by

AUG 15. SOmeone told me and I cant remember who but they told me it

will be definetly running on AUG 1. Im not sure how accurate that is

so you may want to call. The number to the durham office is 866-344-

1290. Actually now that Im looking at it thats the same as the

Charlotte office but call anyway and ask them Im sure Carla at the

Charlotte office would be happy to give you the info you needed.

Good luck and congrats on your newly adopted daughter!!!
