Guest guest
There are many reasons apart from the child doesent need one. If you have Insurance with no referal needed (PPO) then the Dr willingly gives you any imfo to any specialist, The reasons they wont give referals are their contract with the Insurance companies and the need to keep costs low for Insurance companies by controlling the high costs of specialists etc. If the Dr wtires too many referals he may pay a penalty or loose his contract. The Ins only care about their bottom line and profits. Its not realy the Drs fault its the Insurance companies. Guest guest
, I really think a lot of it stems from the fact that these doctors *really * believe that they are right, and who are we to question them. My ped didn't give me too hard of a time of getting the go ahead. The first time I asked about the flatness, he did give me the 'it will round out on its own' line. I don't think he intentionally did it to be ignorant, I think he just wanted to play it safe. When I asked a second time, he knew I wasn't happy and that's when he gave me the name of a specialist. So I think some of it stems from the fact that doctors have to be very careful in these 'sue happy' times, so they tend to take a more laid back approach. I also think the insurance industry is breathing so hard down these doctors backs, that its basically the insurance indusrty dictating what course of action or treatment these doctors can take. And then again, you just have some doctors out there that just plain and simple, suck. Guest guest
: I really can't answer that, I've wondered that myself many times though. I think a lot of Drs get that " God complex " where they think they know it all and are always right. If you're having trouble getting a referral from your ped., come right out & ask what his or her problem is referring your child to a specialist to be on the safe side. Don't be shy!
