Guest guest
Barbara, Baptist will most definetly let you in with her, I think they only discourage the parents that are not being helpful with the process by making the child feel equally as apprehensive as they do- I was rarely the only parent in the room- although I may have been more active in trying to calm him down with toys, etc.- but not all kids are there for tort. I didn't know about the sign until we were almost done with therapy! I think its great that grandma can watch Catalina- it will be much easier on you and you can concentrate fully on what needs to be done. Our sessions were only 1/2 hour long- so she would start with craniosacral techinques to relax him (looks like meditation), we would lay him on the mat and I would blow bubbles to his left to get him to look- as he would she would lay her palm on his cheek and try to, I don't want to say force, but just coax a greater range with a little pressure, not much, and I believe the best stretches we ever got in were at home while he was conked out- he wasn't bad with her, at times he cried, other times it was fine. Or she would sit him in her lap and as he would turn, she would turn as well so he would have to work harder to see what toy I had- probably like you've already done. At first I was apprehensive with him crying at times, but was severe and we did have to roll up our sleeves and start doing some hands on stretches (not to mention he had a lump that had a strangle hold on the muscle), before the muscle atrophied due to the fibrous lump he was getting. But in hindsight I'm glad we were not either, overly aggressive or passive, somewhere in the middle. I'll email you with more on exercises if you'd like that we did at home, but they are basically the ones shown on orthoseek. Good luck and don't worry- I know- easier said than done- but you will be in good hands there! ' mom
