Guest guest
I'm copying and pasting a message I found in the archives from someone who took their baby to Boston Children's Hospital. Hope this helps! We saw Dr. Proctor at the Childrens Hospital in Boston (whom I found through this site!). He measured her head and told me that he felt she was fairly advanced and that even with repositioning, it was unlikely we would have great results. So he wrote a prescription for a helmet and before I knew it my daughter was covered in plaster being casted for a helmet at NOPCO. I wasn't expecting it that very day so I was a little stressed. But the man at NOPCO who did the fitting was incredibly nice and very helpful. I was really happy I decided to bring her to be looked at now instead of waiting. They were very enthusiastic about her young age (4 1/2 months now) since she is likely to get good results. I was told that she may be able to wear the helmet for 2 months full time and then possibly just at night after that for 2 more months? She gets her helmet next Friday. I'm just a little concerned about her somewhat sensitive skin, the hot weather coming, and if she will have trouble sleeping in it at first. We are also doing neck stretches although the Dr. felt that she didn't seem to have too much of a problem with that. I have an appointment with her regular ped. this afternoon and I feel a little bad that I never even consulted her. I just made an appointment with a specialist and went. I don't need a referral for my insurance. I have no idea whether the helmet will be covered or not. I know the plagio website recommends waiting for an answer from your insurance before getting the helmet but I just didn't want to let them be the boss of my daughter's treatment. If that means I pick up the tab, so be it. I will of course try to get them to cover at least some. Thanks so much for your help and I will be sure to update after we get the helmet! Guest guest
Following is one more archived message that I found regarding Boston Children's Hospital. As you can see from both messages their email addresses are attached. You might try emailing them directly to see if they can give you anymore input. Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma From: nbrown@... Date: Thu Jan 3, 2002 9:22 am Subject: RE: Trip to Boston ADVERTISEMENT Hi - My son who is 10mos. old started going to Boston Childrens 4 mos ago. His neurologist is Dr. Mark Proctor and he sees a couple different orthotists @ Nopco...Mike and Randy. Everyone has been extremely helpful and thoughtful. Not to mention the fact that has responded to the treatment extremely well. We actually will be seeing both doctors tomorrow (we go in every other Friday). The helmet treatment is passive and has been great! was considered severe when we started and when you take his helmet off you can't even tell. We will be getting some new measurements tomorrow so I'm anxious to find out how much improvement he's had. We originally planned on going w/the DOC Band, we actually felt that it was the only and best way to go. But I must say that once we met w/Mark Proctor and saw the treatment and outcome of many patients, we decided to try it out. I am so glad we did too! has done tremendously well and these are truly some " top notch " doctors and surgeons at Boston Childrens, so we feel very comfortable w/putting our child in their care. We too live about 45 minutes north of Boston. So please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I just gave my notice at work to become a stay at home Mom, so my email address @ home is brownys4@... - mom to and Jack - 10 month old twins
