Guest guest
Christi - Have you contacted your vet or a trainer? Another good resource is the ASPCSA or a local humane society. If you need any help in locating one, let me know and I can give you more info (ours is geaugahumane.org). They can really help you out with fixing the behavior. Do they dig in the house too? My childhood dog did this! We had some major issues last summer when we rescued a 13 or 14 year old beagle. We worked with our vet. He put her on a behavioral drug for about a month and it did wonders. Don't give up on the dogs. We have rescued 2 dogs and 3 cats. The kids love them and they are a part of our family. Guest guest
No I havent contacted anyone. I really cant afford to pay a trainer. And I never even thought about a vet. I think I will do that when my husband takes them in for there rabbies shots. (I cant take them they are way too big for me to control them ) I will try to locate a humane society orASPCA. Thanks for the help! Christi mom to MYA > > Hey I know this is way off topic but I am at my wits end. Guest guest
I looked at the Humane Society and basically it doesnt really tell me how to stop digging. It just says some causes are boredom and no interaction. Well I have to admit they dont get very much interaction. When my husbands home he plays with them maybe once a week and my kids just arent interested in playing with them too much they are just such big dogs my kids get scared or annoyed when the dogs push them out of the way or step on there feet with there paws (which hurts with there huge paws) But that is why we got the rottweiler a freind. We bought the doberman just to make sure the rott was happy and entertained but it just seems like now there are two bad dogs outthere instead of one. They are outside dogs. I dontlet them come in my house. They arent house trained for one and for two the deal with my husband was he could have a dog but I didnt want to be the one responsible for caring for it and it wasnt coming in my house. Soooo needless to say these poor dogs just sit out in the yard all day and thy have a big yard and run around playing with each other all day and we even have a baby pool out there for them to play in which the rott loves but Im just at my wits end and clueless Im so worried they are going to destroy our septic system and I definetly cant afford to fix that JEESH! Guest guest
Christi- Yeah, that would be the source of the problem. Have you thought about crate training? The Denver Dumb Friends League is great. Their website is http://www.ddfl.org. I remember getting a lot of info from them last summer. Kong toys are suppossed to work really well. You can get them at any pet store. Rottweiler Rescue and Doberman Rescue should also be good sources of info on beginning to socialize your dogs more. I'm sure they get a lot of dogs dumbed on them from similiar situations, so they might have some great breed specific information on how you can solve the problem and keep your dogs. If there is anything else I can help you with, let me know. Feel free to email me offlist! Candace rescues labs, so she might be able to help too. I would like for you to be able to keep your dogs. If not, check with the breeder you bought them from. Reputable breeders will rescue the dogs they sold. When I say rescue, I mean live there with them, not take back and euthanize. As you can tell I am a pet fanatic! Oh yeah! Make sure those dogs are fixed. That could also be a source of the problem.
