Guest guest
Hi Kerri, I'm not artistic in any way, shape, or form so I would second Debbie's link to the decorating tips. I used stickers only! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Here's my decorating tips. Sanding first with a very fine grit (400 or 600) sandpaper will help the paint stick. Best to use as a base coat is acrylic craft paint which is non-toxic, quick drying (15min) and low odor. Latex and acrylic spray paints have too many fumes -- if you really want to use them you'll need to have the band off for at least 24 hours until the vapors are all gone. Best top coat is waterbased polyurethane (like DuraClear or DreamCoat) -- it's also low odor and quick drying (15min). Some have used Modge-Podge or acrylic varnish as a top coat, but this was not recommended by my local CT because of fumes. I found that once I put stickers on the base coat or top coat, they were pretty much permanent. Unless you're willing to peel off with the base coat and then touch-up. If your baby is mobile, be prepared for lots of touch-up regardless what paint you use! - Painting question--advice please! Now that has her helmet, we obviously want to decorate it. We were thinking of a base of color with stickers on top that we can change. I need your help. Do we need to sand the plastic first? Once we paint, how many coats of varnish do we need? What kind of drying time should we expect? Paintbrush in hand, Kerri in Chicago
