Guest guest
Aloha Today we saw an 18-month-old girl who was recently diagnosed with a " metabolic disorder " which has left her with some left side paralysis and according to her mother a loss of overall motor function and vitality, compared to her previous state of development. The child's current situation was preceded by 3 days of seizure activity which came on without precipitating factors, and without fever (though she had a cold a month or so earlier). Her doctor has suggested the possibility of Leigh's Syndrome. There is also mention of Basal Ganglia involvement. Though I have a background in Neuropathology, this is over my head. Also, this is the youngest child we have seen. We did a CZ EEG baseline, and also a reading at T3 T4. We're artifacting the measurements, but not sure what to look for. We would expect some right side sensory motor involvement, but again the age of the child leaves us unsure of norms, or expected values. We probably will not do any training with the child, unless we have some additional support. We have suggested that the mother contact the Amen Clinic, and if possible take the child there for further workup. We're just not quite sure where to go with this one and thought it was worth looking for some suggestions. Mahalo
