I believe that all here on this list will agree that your boy is a good

candidate for Neurofeedback.

Anyone who has worked in the field as a professional for more than a year

has met someone in a similar situation to your son.

His age is prime to intervene with this technique, as he has reached some

limits and knows his potential (well beyond those limits). In other words,

he is probably easily motivated to play the game.

And those they are. These days, the work is a lot more play than anything

else.

It might seem all rosy and fun from the way I´m describing things. Well, it

can be alot of the time.

Or it can be a battle, or it can be a long haul. If you stick with it, it is

VERY VERY likely to bear positive fruits for your son, your familiy, and our

society.

Now. A few questions:

Are you near a professional who can attend in an office setting?

Are you in a region that has a HomeBased trainers support group?

Do you have a home environment that can create the necessary disciplined

structure to go all the way through with the work?

Are there others in your family with similar behaviours? Have they been

diagnosed? Are they on medications?

What does your prescribing professional think of Neurofeedback?

What does the rest of your family think?

WHAT DOES HE THINK?

That ought to be enough to get the conversation going.

The very best to you and yours!

Sincerely,

Machado Van Deusen

, sorry. Trigger finger. Here's my message:

It sounds like your son could definitely benefit from neurofeedback.

My son has also struggled with anger and outbursts. As a mom I know

what you mean-- I knew he had ADHD when he was just a tiny tot, but

professionals said little kids are " overactive " by nature, and you

can't diagnose ADHD at such a young age. They don't know what we're

dealing with! The anger on top of the hyperactivity makes it

especially difficult. I remember when he was just walking, almost 1

year old, he would bump into a cupboard, for example, and scream and

hit it as if it had assaulted him. (It wasn't his parents because

we were really nice until he was about 3!)

My son is 9 now. We began neurofeedback a couple years ago training

at home without supervision and had some positive results, but with

professional home-based supervision over the summer he made greatly

significant changes in his behavior. The violent outbursts are not

part of daily life, and he's able to control his impulses much

better. So many things about living and relating are better I'd

have to look at my notes to remember.

Our " prescribing professional " doesn't think anything of

neurofeedback. His work is meds. Still, I recently said I wanted

to cut the meds, my son is controlling himself, not having

outbursts, etc. & doc said, " Well, maybe he is maturing. That can

happen. " Whatever! We agreed to cut them.

Once you decide to undertake neurofeedback you have to implement it

and stay with it to gain the real benefits. We trained at least

weekly and much of the time it was several times a week since we

train at home. I was really motivated and made the work a priority

even through some turbulence, and it really paid off.

They do want to do better. It's difficult to feel the way they do

all the time. These kids are very sensitive, and things that might

not phase others can have a deep impact on them and contribute to

the difficulties of life at home. If your boy is invested in the

process of neurofeedback and the family is able to appreciate and

adapt to the changes he makes, it can be a remarkable transformation

for the family. It's like a whole new life.

Best wishes to your family,

Rah

Your son sounds like a wonderful little guy and you've gotten some excellent feedback on the list. I wanted to ditto the feedback. I specialize in working with children like your son and use neurofeedback, primarily because it works so well and meds and psychotherapy alone have extremely limited results. I worked with one child -- for about 9 months in therapy before his parents decided to try the neurofeedback. He did improve --he started with meltdowns so big that when one happened at school his classmates were so scared they had to call the school psychologist in to debrief the kids. Fortunately the principal was willing to work with us and we all worked to reduce the shame this child felt --which is very damaging. Within a month of starting neurofeedback his anger began to significantly subside and the melt downs are now completely gone. (His academics greatly improved also! (-:] I will say that most children need some behavior modification because they either don't know appropriate ways to express their anger --so even when they do have self control they may still act the way they used to out of habit rather than loss of control. Best wishes!

So where are you? You need a therapist who knows BioFeedback to help you

get started.

BFB for 12yr old ADHD

I am new to this group. Thinking of trying BioFeedback for my son.

BACKGROUND-I new he had it @ the age of 18mos. He was officially

diagnosed @ age 3, after being kicked out of Daycare after 2weeks.

He was exactly as ADHD is described. A motor always on & in motion.

Medication began & is currently being used.

He is Gifted, sensitive, funny, loving, but also can be very

hostile. EX. When he doesnt get his way he will stomp out of room,

kicking & hitting walls & furniture. If we react with the paddle, he

says " no please, please I'm sorry, I didnt mean it. " and so on.

At time he is very mournful of his behavior and expresses his desire

to do better. He has anger issues.

At this time he is failing 7th grade because he wont do the work. If

he was grade on tests only, he would be on the honor roll. His

behavior is fine @ school. ( which I am very grateful for!!!) But

not at home.

Is he a good candidate for Bio-Feedback.

Need help.
