Guest guest
Ok, you are expressing yourself about food standards, world trade, and our sweet American right to be protected, and I get that, I really do. Now I will express myself. 1. If Americans are stupid enough not to wash their jalapenos thoroughly and boil their fishheads past the danger zone, that is on them. 2. Our food is just as sad. Even if we grew everything inside our continental US, which we could do, we have many climates and soil pHs, we would still have to deal with Genetically Modified foods (these are not old enough to prove safety), low concentrations of nutrients in the soil (not so much the fertile plains anymore, do to a lack of consiencous farming), and all of these horrible pesticides that they spray everyday (these are definately not safe), unless you buy organic. We should be washing our jalapenos with soapy water to remove these chemicals anyway, so that should be a nonissue. 3. People in poorer parts of Mexico make their clothing and shelter, even transportation, out of our TRASH. They do not recieve government aid, schooling, and the other million safety clauses that we have. They may not have facilities to use while they pick jalapenos from dawn to dusk, and they are too poor to have a bottle of hand sanitizer in their pockets. But these jalapenos are cheap to buy, and they can be sold at the same prices as American ones, thereby acheiving higher profit. So, please, get mad- but get mad at the businesses that want High Profit above all else. Get mad at American consumers for being lazy about researching what they are buying. We literally affect more changes on the world by what we are buying than any other way. There's me rant, thanks for your kind attention.
