A survey of nearly 7,000 patients who live in urban areas, published

recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, suggests that Americans

generally receive mediocre treatment regardless of ethnicity or wealth. " It

doesn't matter whether you're rich or poor, white or black, insured or

uninsured, " said the studies chief author, Dr. Asch, at the Rand

Health research institute, in Santa , Calif. " We all get equally

mediocre care. "
