Guest guest
Complaints about homeowner's insurance are on the rise. If you're a homeowner with property insurance, you can inform PennPIRG's work on the issue by telling us about your experiences with, and views on, homeowner's insurance. Please take our brief survey by clicking here or pasting this link into your web browser: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=188271890164 Background Homeowners pay their pay insurance bills month after month, year after year, but recent stories suggest that when homeowners file claims or even make inquiries about filing claims, insurance companies respond by increasing insurance rates or canceling policies. If so, it puts homeowners in a bind every time something happens to their home, forcing them to choose between eating the costs of the repairs by paying out-of-pocket or filing a claim and risking higher premiums or dropped coverage. Oregon has passed a law to regulate these insurance practices. California is considering regulations that would require insurance companies to tell their customers whether rates will be raised or policies canceled after the filing of a claim or claims. PennPIRG would like to investigate what improvements are needed to Pennsylvania's laws to better protect homeowners here. Your input will inform our work in Pennsylvania on the issue.
