Guest guest
Hi All, I sought methods qualification dominance hemisphere( for needs neurofeedback), especially for speeches. I did not find strong papers . On my way checked the weight opinion, that centres speech this mostly - left hemisphere. Dear members group, what your inquiry, brought to light in this to matter ? How you unknot this problem ? You have certainty of choice ? Somebody, purposely coached left hemispheres,..... as right ? Best. Contralateral Brain??? Listmates,We all know that, for the most part, the left brain controls the right part of the body and vice versa. I also understand that there are some connections that are ipsilateral (same side). I was just wondering, however, are there some people whose right side controls right body and left brain to left body? I know this is not what we learn in normal cases, but are there anomalies like with people whose language center may be on the right, etc. If this is possible, how could we tell if an individual is like this?Connie Almony
Guest guest
Jan, I agree that the question of how to decide whether the left hemisphere is dominant for language is not easy to answer. Fortunately, since a very high percent of people are left dominant, it is not a problem very often. I used a technique called conjugate lateral eye movement. You ask a person to perform mental calculation and watch for the direction the eyes move during calculation. If they move to the right, the person is using the left hemisphere for calculation, which is consistent with left-dominant language. If they more left, then I would be more willing to consider possible reverse dominance. The much greater problem is the incomplete dominant brain. Many children especially use left hand for some tasks and right for others. This often results in language difficulties, sometimes letter reversal, sometimes stuttering, because the brain is attempting to use both sides for language. In the few cases where I have been unsure if I had a right-dominant client, I have tried reversing some simply protocols (e.g. C3 beta moving to C4) to see if we got better results.
