Hi All,

Is natural linalool able to be purchased (as just the constituent)?

Or, for those of you who use it in your perfume formulas,

do you rely on an essential oil high in linalool?

I've searched and am coming up short.

Tammy

Hi Tammy,

I just ran into linalool last weekend at

http://www.thegoodscentscompany.com

They list it in their Raw Materials section, along with indole and

other isolates and synthetics. So I'm wondering myself if theirs is

an isolate or a synthetic -- I couldn't find any place where they

specifically said one or the other, and I'd like to assume it's an

isolate, but won't. You could contact them and ask. I have NOT

purchased anything from them, so this is NOT an endorsement. I only

just found them.

Here's a <snip> of what they say about their linalool (there's more):

Organoleptics :

odor type : floral

odor strength : Medium

odor description : fresh floral sweet woody green natural

taste description¹ : At 10.00 ppm. Citrus, orange, lemon, floral,

waxy, aldehydic and woody

substantivity : 12 Hour(s)

appearence : colorless clear liquid

assay : 99.00 - 100.00 %

specific gravity : 0.85800 - 0.86700 @ 25.00 °C.

7.139 - 7.214 pounds per gallon

refractive index : 1.45980 - 1.46050 @ 20.00 °C.

optical rotation : -2.00 to +2.00

boiling point : 194.00 - 197.00 °C. @ 760.00 mm

boiling point : 117.00 - 118.00 °C. @ 50.00 mm

acid value : 1.00 max. KOH/g

Safety :

most important hazards : Xi - Irritant

flash point ( Deg. F. ) : 169.00 °F. TCC ( 76.11 °C. )

recommendation for usage levels up to :

8.0000 % in the fragrance concentrate.

recommendation for usage levels up to :

40.0000 ppm in the flavor.

safety in use information :

Critical Effect: Sensitization.

Fragrance Material Specification:

Limit peroxide level to 20 mmol/l.

Linalool and natural products known to be rich in linalool, such as

bois de rose, coriander or ho wood oil, should only be used when the

level of peroxides is kept to the lowest practical level. It is

recommended to add antioxidants at the time of production of the raw

material. The addition of 0.1% BHT or alpha-tocopherol for example

has shown great efficiency. The maximum peroxide level for products

in use should be 20 mmol/l.

Hope this helps!

Chemically?

thegoodscentscompany does not carry any natural isolates, they're all

synths. I phoned him a month or two ago to confirm.

Thank you for the link Andrine and thanks for the update Anya.

I'll continue to work with Rosewood or Basil linalool.
