" Think Family: Improving the life chances of families at risk

Today Ed Miliband, the Minister for the Cabinet Office, and Beverley , the

Minister of State

for Children, Young People and Famililes, launched a new approach to local

services to improve

support for the most disadvantaged families and prevent problems passing down

from excluded parents

to their children.

The Think Family report - published by the Social Exclusion Task Force in the

Cabinet Office - will

ensure adult services support whole families not just individuals, and announces

a £16m programme of

local pilots, to be led by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

The Think Family report is part of the Families At-Risk Review which outlines

the Government's

commitment to improving the life chances of families at risk, including

sustained support for

systems reform through:

◠Committing £16 million to establish a Family Pathfinder programme to

develop evidence of

what works and share the best solutions on the ground (funded by the Department

for Children,

Schools and Families)

â— Initiating an ongoing dialogue between central government, local authorities

and their

partners

â— Announcing policy changes and commitments from nine government departments

A key next stage of the review is the Family Pathfinder programme, funded by the

Department for

Children, Schools and Families. This will test and inform the development and

implementation of the

‘think family’ approach, and continue this vital dialogue between central

government, local

partners and the third sector. "

Adults, the Social Exclusion Task Force conducted a series of workshops across

the country on

indicator data and Local Area Agreements.
