Dear SENATE

The following may help as it shows what is known and yet to be known about

effectiveness of parent

education. It also covers the targeted versus universal aspects of programmes.

As it was done for

policy advice it may be particularly helpful in arguments for universal

provision at some levels of

intervention. The summary report says it all but the online database details are

of more practical

support and the full report reviews in a grid 88 individual evaluation studies

of parenting

support interventions that informed the conclusions of the Review. Apologies if

you are already

familiar with it.

What Works in Parenting Support: Online Database

http://www.prb.org.uk/wwiparenting/

Quote: " This database accompanies What Works in Parenting Support? A Review of

the International

Evidence by Moran, Deborah Ghate, and Amelia van der Merwe at the

Policy Research Bureau.

It contains details of 88 individual evaluation studies of parenting support

interventions that

informed the conclusions of the Review. "

This was a project was sponsored by the Department for Education and Skills done

by the now closed

" POLICY RESEARCH BUREAU, an independent social policy research centre based in

London, specialising

in applied research on the family and young people. "

At one time I reviewed parenting websites for advice about crying and father

information and this

Australian one, which is related to child development is good in many respects,

although there are

always limitations in this way of interventing.

http://raisingchildren.net.au/

See under Newborn for video clips on crying baby check list which included

involving fathers. It

might be useful for school teaching?

Are there other websites that anyone else suggests to parents? When I

interviewed mothers and

fathers in deprived neighbourhoods about protecting babies heads and crying

babies some did like to

look things up on the internet.

I'm sorry this is probably only manageable for anyone in/near

London. Please see attached for full details; abstract below for

anyone who does not receive attachments.
