New birth or primary assessment visit

Dear Senate

I am trying to put together some thoughts on the new birth visit or any other primary visit eg. ante natal or movement in. I would welcome thoughts on these visits and the skill base required to make them successful, both as an assessment and for our clients. As a 'coal face' health visitor I have always felt that the essence of the job is some how tied up in that visit but I am not finding it easy to tease out the skills and what health visiting brings to it. All thoughts or references would be welcomed.
