Alison I would love to know how they can see any infection on an MRI

as I have never in all my years working at a hospital heard of them

using MRI's to detect infections. I am sorry to say that most Dr's

are not going to be helpful in your situation. If your Dr did not

remove your capsules you probably do need to see a specialist. I

would say Feng is a good choice, as I know that a few others have

gone to her for removal of old capsule and been very pleased with the

results.

I hope that this will be the end of this trial for you and that you

will heal after this is all finished.

Let me know if I can help you in any way with any info on Dr Feng or

anything else I can do to help you.

I am not quit sure but I was told that an MRI of the breasst is a new thing and its much more sensitive to detecting things in the breasts then a mammogram or ultrasound. The thing is I had an ultrasound and mammogram when my implants were in and it didn't show infection. I also had a Tagged White Cell study after my implants were out and they couldn't find anything with that either.

I really feel in my heart of heart that its from the implants but when you go to the doctor every week and they tell you your crazy I don't know what to believe.

Please send or tell me anything you can about Dr. Feng, I am just afraid of being rejected by another doctor.

Hi :

I've had a high WBC since 01 that I know of. It will sometimes dip down into the high end of normal but mostly it's above normal.

Yes, I get low grade fevers. In Feb. I had a high one.

Do you have scalp and body hair loss? I do.

Interesting, mine has been low for years. Lupus-like stuff makes it lower.

My WBC were 14 thousand about a month ago, my fevers have been 100.5-100.9 lately.

I don't have any hair loss yet. I have a lot of chest and abdominal pain, joint pain, memory loss, brain fog, tired all the time and the list goes on and on.

,

If you know for a certainty that you did not have the scar capsules removed, and you are still feeling extremely ill, the best option I can suggest to you is to pursue getting those capsules out. I don't know if you've seen the postings we have in our files on the complications of retained scar capsules, but if you have not, please go read them and then make some decisions about how you can go about getting them taken out safely and completely. I have several friends who have been down this road, and getting the scar capsule removed was instrumental in their recovery.

If you are already considering Dr. Feng, then you are considering the best. I share the opinion with others here that she is the most knowledgeable and skilled, AND the most compassionate (the combination is what makes her one of the best), and she will do a dynamite job of getting all the scar capsule out of your body. That scar tissue can harbor bacterial colonies, and all kinds of other gunk that can make you sick, as well as evolve over time into more sinister blobs that will prevent your recovery. That is why we stress so HIGHLY the need for the scar tissue to be removed.

Let us know....we will be here to help. I know the prospect of another surgery is the last thing you want to go through, but unfortunately, thanks to some of these doctors who don't understand how vital this is to our recovery, we pay a higher price for their ignorance. I wish it weren't so.

God bless,

Patty

Did we not get over this "best" doctor stuff. First go to LINKS, and then look under EXPLANT INFORMATION. You will find several articles there about retained scar capsule complications. Also, here is some info we had from Dr. Feng on this issue:

(Thanks very much to Dr. Lu-Feng of Cleveland Ohio for these remarks

regarding capsule removal after saline implants)

A biological capsule will form around any implant. Any saline implant removal

will require a total capsulectomy. Like anything else in life, there are few

exceptions. Here are the few exceptions which would have to be fulfilled

before I would entertain the possibility of not removing the saline capsule.

(1) The capsule has to be tissue paper thin and without contracture.

(2) The patient has to be without any local or systemic symptoms.

(3) The saline implant has to be smooth shelled.

(4) There has to be no previous history of gel filled implant insertion.

All these conditions have to be fulfilled before I would consider not taking

the saline capsule out. As you can see, few patients would fulfill these

criteria. Invariably, I take out the entire capsule around saline implants.

I don't know anything about MRI's being able to detect infection, I

work in a hospital and am very familiar with tests done to detect

problems with infection and MRI is not one of them. They do a test

called WBC test but not MRI. As for the Dr's making you feel crazy,

they do that well don't they? That is why I just got so tired of the

game and the back and forth crap between this Dr and that one and

they all treated me like I was a nut case. When I finally had blood

work that showed I did in fact have some autoimmune stuff going on

they at least began to take me seriously but still even then they

continued to say it was not the implants. I think that when your gut

is telling you somthing that is the thing I would go with. Forget

everything else and go with your gut.

What can I say about Dr Feng, I mean to me she is amazing, she is an

excellent Surgeon, completely professional and totally compassionate.

She is a perfectionist when it comes to her patients, not just

looking good but also getting all the capsule and stuff all out, not

leaving even a tiny speck of it behind. She worked on me for 6 1/2

hours to get it all out, and she came and held my hand in the

recovery room and assured me that she had done just that. She also

always stood by me, and told me and reasured me that she had seen

women just like me, 1,000's of them, and that they all had similiar

symptoms and that most of them all got better in time, she told me

the honest truth and that there was always a small chance it was

coincidence, but that she felt sure that it was the implants and not

a coincidence and I knew that she was not just out for the money.

People often have critisized her for saying she is pricey or

whatever, but to me there is no amount of money that can be put on

what she did for me. I am not rich and it took allot of effort for me

to travel to Ohio, to come up with money etc. But in the end everyone

has the make the ultimate decision as to what they will do with their

bodies and how they will deal with this decision. I feel good about

my experience and feel it was money well spent, it was an investment

in my body, in my future, and the results were great.

Dr Feng will not reject you , she will not tell you that the implants

are not to blame, she will not make you feel as though you did

anything wrong, and she will def be on your side. She will tell you

exactly what she knows (which is allot) and exatly what she feels

will be your situation, how you will look, and while she may not be

100% accurate in fortelling that she is pretty damn good at

visualizing what your results willl be. Most all her patients that I

ever hear from are happy, and I don't see any other Dr's work on the

web nearly as much as hers. her methods of cutting, of stitching, the

type of material and size of the suture material is so tiny and thin

and her hands being so small i am sure add to her work being so

beautiful, she is extemely meticulous in her work.

Anyhow enough about all this, the bottom line is, sure you may be

able to find someone closer to you or cheaper, but wil they admit the

implants are bad? Do they stand by that or do they waiver in their

beliefs? To me this was extremely important and I know to others it

is not as big a deal. I really wanted to know that my surgeon

believed in what she was doing, that it was not just something she

would do without admiting implants are bad. I know for some women

that just need the damn things out that is acceptable, and maybe had

I been that desperate I would have felt the same way, but when I laid

out on that operating table and was under anesthesia I wanted to know

that I would not only be safe, but that I had a Dr working on me that

believed that those implants were dangerous and that they had to come

out to return me to my previous health, or at least to get me back to

some kind of acceptable health.

I have rambled on and on. I know everyone's feeling on this are

different and it is an extremely touchy subject and i just share how

I feel and that is what I am doing here for you. You can go to any Dr

you want to but if your looking for great results and an even greater

feeling of safety and security and trust, then this is def the right

Dr for you.

She will not tell you implants are safe and she certainly will tell

you that she does not recomend them in anyone. Just looking around

her office at how tiny everyone there is reinforced this feeling in

me as most PS offices I had been to previously the women working

there had obviously been implanted. I felt that Dr Feng had enough

class and standards that she was not running around advertising her

implantation skills with all her office staff or the public in general

that meant allot to me, and hey honestly some of this crap means

nothing to some people and to them just taking the bombs out is what

they want and what it is all about.

If that is the case there are probably many other Drs that might work

for you.

It realy is a personaly decisions if you want to go to one of the

other Dr's who do good work, or if you want to go to Dr Feng who does

great work and stands by the opinion that all implants are and can be

dangerous. Does having a Dr that believe in you matter that much to

you like it did to me, or can you deal with a Dr that will remove

them but won't say if they really believe the implants are bad or not.

Those are some of the questions you need to ask yourself and then

when you have come to a decision about this, you can honestly make an

informed choice as to explant, and with what Dr to chose.

I hope that I have not put you to sleep with my legnthy post.

To me these things meant allot.

I hope that they mean something to you also.

Hugs and blessing

I'm Sharon (new to the site). I live down in the Tacoma area. I've contacted Dr Helen PS office up in Bellingham. I'm scheduled for a consultation with one of their Drs, Whitney, for explant in July. The staff indicates they do complete capsulectomy and removal of foreign material. You may want to give them a call and see if they may be of help removing your capsules. 360 676 0972. As I said, I haven't talked directly with the Dr yet, but what the staff said sounded positive.

Thank you so much for your e-mail, I agree with what your saying. I' ve all ready wasted my money one having the implants out by comprising on the doctor and as my husband said you can't put a price on your health. I called her office today and talked to a lady named for a long time.

I think I had mentioned before I got my chart notes from the doctor that explanted me. It didn't say anything about the capsule being removed but I though I better call and find out for sure. His nurse called my back and said "the doctor said there was no need to take the capsule out for they were not silicone implants."

Also the WBC test you were talking about, is that the tagged white cell study? I had that done in January, but they could find any infection. What do you think about that?

I have to wait about three weeks for one last blood test called Familial Mediterranean Fever before I schedule anything.

Thank you for your message it means a lot to me. I am so glad I found this group. All of you have been so helpful and comforting. People that havn't been through it don't understand. Infact I have a friend with implants and was talking to her today and she asked if I was going to get implants put back in.

Thank you so much,

Thank you, I won't schedule surgery for a while do to some pending blood tests let me know how your visit goes. What kind of symptoms are you having? I used a doctor in Bellevue to take the implants out because I was desperate. I wish I would of done my homework, but I was never able to find much information on the Web until this group which has lots of information.

I'm no medical professional but the MRI I had on my head did not detect my sinus infection. The ENT suspected I had it and it was confirmed by a CATSCAN done on the nasal area. With this type of infection, the sinus swells in such a way that it shows on a cat scan. Unless the breast tissues look different in the presence of infection (changing shape/structure) I don't see how an MRI can help. All I know is MRI did not catch my sinus infection.

What about a needle biopsy of the tissue?naturalbeauty38 <naturalbeauty38@...> wrote:

I don't know anything about MRI's being able to detect infection, I work in a hospital and am very familiar with tests done to detect problems with infection and MRI is not one of them. They do a test called WBC test but not MRI. As for the Dr's making you feel crazy, they do that well don't they? That is why I just got so tired of the game and the back and forth crap between this Dr and that one and they all treated me like I was a nut case. When I finally had blood work that showed I did in fact have some autoimmune stuff going on they at least began to take me seriously but still even then they continued to say it was not the implants. I think that when your gut is telling you somthing that is the thing I would go with. Forget everything else and go with your gut. What can I say about Dr Feng, I mean to me she is amazing, she is an

excellent Surgeon, completely professional and totally compassionate. She is a perfectionist when it comes to her patients, not just looking good but also getting all the capsule and stuff all out, not leaving even a tiny speck of it behind. She worked on me for 6 1/2 hours to get it all out, and she came and held my hand in the recovery room and assured me that she had done just that. She also always stood by me, and told me and reasured me that she had seen women just like me, 1,000's of them, and that they all had similiar symptoms and that most of them all got better in time, she told me the honest truth and that there was always a small chance it was coincidence, but that she felt sure that it was the implants and not a coincidence and I knew that she was not just out for the money. People often have critisized her for saying she is pricey or whatever, but to me there is no amount of money that can be put on what she

did for me. I am not rich and it took allot of effort for me to travel to Ohio, to come up with money etc. But in the end everyone has the make the ultimate decision as to what they will do with their bodies and how they will deal with this decision. I feel good about my experience and feel it was money well spent, it was an investment in my body, in my future, and the results were great.Dr Feng will not reject you , she will not tell you that the implants are not to blame, she will not make you feel as though you did anything wrong, and she will def be on your side. She will tell you exactly what she knows (which is allot) and exatly what she feels will be your situation, how you will look, and while she may not be 100% accurate in fortelling that she is pretty damn good at visualizing what your results willl be. Most all her patients that I ever hear from are happy, and I don't see any other Dr's work on the web nearly as

much as hers. her methods of cutting, of stitching, the type of material and size of the suture material is so tiny and thin and her hands being so small i am sure add to her work being so beautiful, she is extemely meticulous in her work.Anyhow enough about all this, the bottom line is, sure you may be able to find someone closer to you or cheaper, but wil they admit the implants are bad? Do they stand by that or do they waiver in their beliefs? To me this was extremely important and I know to others it is not as big a deal. I really wanted to know that my surgeon believed in what she was doing, that it was not just something she would do without admiting implants are bad. I know for some women that just need the damn things out that is acceptable, and maybe had I been that desperate I would have felt the same way, but when I laid out on that operating table and was under anesthesia I wanted to know that I would not only be

safe, but that I had a Dr working on me that believed that those implants were dangerous and that they had to come out to return me to my previous health, or at least to get me back to some kind of acceptable health.I have rambled on and on. I know everyone's feeling on this are different and it is an extremely touchy subject and i just share how I feel and that is what I am doing here for you. You can go to any Dr you want to but if your looking for great results and an even greater feeling of safety and security and trust, then this is def the right Dr for you.She will not tell you implants are safe and she certainly will tell you that she does not recomend them in anyone. Just looking around her office at how tiny everyone there is reinforced this feeling in me as most PS offices I had been to previously the women working there had obviously been implanted. I felt that Dr Feng had enough class and standards that she was

not running around advertising her implantation skills with all her office staff or the public in generalthat meant allot to me, and hey honestly some of this crap means nothing to some people and to them just taking the bombs out is what they want and what it is all about. If that is the case there are probably many other Drs that might work for you.It realy is a personaly decisions if you want to go to one of the other Dr's who do good work, or if you want to go to Dr Feng who does great work and stands by the opinion that all implants are and can be dangerous. Does having a Dr that believe in you matter that much to you like it did to me, or can you deal with a Dr that will remove them but won't say if they really believe the implants are bad or not. Those are some of the questions you need to ask yourself and then when you have come to a decision about this, you can honestly make an informed choice as to explant, and with

Yes, the MRI on my head detected nothing, but the triple-headed spect scan

was quite revealing. This was nuclear medicine, don't think I would do it

today, but in 1992 I was quite desperate to find out what was wrong with

me. It showed the lack of blood flow to certain areas and hot spots.

MRI's show some things, and often show acute inflammation. It may not show

a lot of other things. A CAT Scan may show up a sinus blockage. An

ultrasound showed a polyp in my daughter's sinuses, where an MRI showed

nothing. It is interesting what one test shows and another does not.

I had a CT Scan too, it showed some small stuff, but they found two small bilateral axillary lymph nodes. When I looked it up on the internet it relates to your breasts. The doctor told me not to worry about them it was normal. I asked about a needle biopsy too, they said unless there is a mass or a pocket of fluid they can't do it.

Hi !

I hope you find a doc who can help you--I realise it's very frustrating. It's great that Sharon is in Washington too. Maybe her doc can help?

Take care,

No he is the Infectious Disease doctor. I think I am the first patient that has ever come to him with implant issue until a couple of weeks ago he told me he had a patient that implant's were so infected that they fell right out of her. I think he is now comparing me to her, but he is suppose to be the best he is head of a bunch of departments and lectures new doctor at the university. I just think it's all out of his realm.
