Guest guest
Oh dear. Here we go again... It's a bad time for NMC. Not only is the registration issue important, but the scandals over the nursing care problems impinge on the fitness to practice problems. I guess if the problems were as bad as the report suggests, there's no help for it. It won't do to leave an important department struggling on, but it's very bad news, especially given the problems at the Commission and another chaotic set of NHS changes in progress despite the consultation responses. The statement says there has been improvement in 'some areas,' but also refers to November 2011's 'fitness to practice' report, which it suggests shows that imporvement in this area continues to fall below the standard that the public and registrants have a right to expect . The new review will look at the NMC's organisational structure, resource allocation and operational management and 'establish what further action is needed to ensure that the NMC is effectively carrying out its statutory duties to promote high standards of conduct and practice, in order to protect the public.' The details are attached, or on the NMC website, http://www.nmc- uk.org/Press-and-media/Latest-news/NMC-welcomes-strategic-review/ This explains why the review of the SCPHN part of the register has been put on hold. best wishes
Guest guest
Thanks for posting this – was away and did not get the opportunity. I find it all very worrying as the NMC has been in a mess since the 1990s when Alison did that work for them following the removal of the then Chief Executive. It is sad that heath visiting as a profession is seeming to suffer from the difficulties within the organisation and it would be so good if the government and Dh would just take hold of it and sort out the Hv registration issue and the third part of the register properly. I have also seen the advert posted and not surprised but like you would want to know who is advertising – the health service or LA or a Children’s Centre. I also think the DH and those involved with the HV implementation plan may be interested in it.
