I've heard that can take days until you can get those out. I got my drains out the day after my surgery. I had my surgery on Wednesday morning and got the drains out Thursday after lunch. It seems that doctors vary widly on their opinions about how long to use the drains. Jade
Guest guest
With most of the PS's they like you to have less than 30cc of fluid in each side before the take them out. If you have more than 30cc of fluid there is a higher chance of having a hematoma wich will need draining by aspiration later on. The body has a hard time getting rid of more than 30cc of fluid. Working in surgery like I do we get patients with drains for all kinds of surgery and they will usually not pull drains if a patient is draining allot of fluid. The drains are a bit unfomfortable but they are for the patients best interest. i Looked at it like this, I did not want that gross stuff building up or getting into my blood stream, so the drains were a good thing, they were my friends. They were taking all that infectious nasty goop and getting it out. I then discovered that if I looked at it that way I could get on with sightseeing and doing things around the Beautiful Cleveland area without worrying so much about the drains. They were only a little uncomfy, since my surgery was in winter I could hide them under my coat and sweater while we went off and saw the rock n roll hall of fame and the NFL hall of fame. There was alot of cool places that I got to see that I never would have seen had I not been getting explanted in Cleveland. I later found out from other girls that we were right near an Amish village, I wish I had known that then, I would have had fun checking that stuff out too. At any rate once your up and around and draining less than 30cc Dr Feng will come right in to her office to pull them, even on a Saturday like she did with mine. In the meantime you can still do lots of things, just be sure to bring some baggy clothing. button up shirts are a really good idea as well. hugs C In , " jadebreaks " <jadebreaks@u...> wrote: > > > You mentioned you drove home after the surgery -- what about drains? > Didn't > > you have those?
